Makeup Prep and Finishing Roundup

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

Trying to get two posts in a week and that means that I actually have to write blog posts, that’s a good start, right? So here we are in August truth be told I have not worn makeup since about April because time isn’t real anymore and I don’t leave my house so here I am talking about makeup when I haven’t worn any in quite some time but here we are anyway.

This is for sure a more of a what I have kind of post as opposed to a what are my favorites kind of post but I will still tell you my favorites as I go.

Primers:

I don’t use primer very often, I did use a color correcting primer from NYX for a really long time, I don’t so much anymore but when I do put on a full face I will put a primer on to help everything stay where it’s supposed to be. I also normally wear primer in the fall, winter, and spring but during the summer, it’s just too much when it feels like 100 degrees outside and you just don’t wanna.

I have a bunch of tiny primers because of my IPSY Glam Bags so while I took a picture of them I am not really going to talk about them because there are so many (10 to be exact).

Ciaté London Watermelon Burst Hydrating Primer:

Got it last month in my IPSY Glam Bag plus and I am excited to have a go at it. I like watermelon so we will see how I feel about it.

Touch in Sol No Pore Blem:

I have used this one several times and love it, it’s just a really light primer with rose water and I really like Touch in Sol as a brand because that is also my current moisturizer and I love it so much.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer:

I like Dr. Brandt’s products and having this in the wings is a great thing. I don’t really have much to say about it because I haven’t gotten the chance to try it but I am excited to.

Concealers:

I use concealer every time I put on makeup because I just look tired at all times so having concealer is really important to me.

There is a reason that I am not a huge fan of every shade being the same name and then they are vastly different colors, like both of mine are fair and they are vastly different shades.

Tarte Shape Tape in shade Fair:

This is the one that I am currently using and I really like it, it is worth the hype that surrounds it. This is one of the lightest shades and I really need to get their shade porcelain but I think when I was at Ulta they were out of it and so that was unfortunate, when I am tan this shade is great but in the dead of winter it’s too yellow.

Colourpop No Filter Concealer in Fair 02:

This one is my absolute makeup bag staple, it’s like a seven dollar concealer and I love it so much. It’s a lighter shade than the Tarte one so it does match my skin tone better with my foundation on.

Setting Powders:

Coty Air Spun in Translucent:

I love this one, it just smells good and this is the one I use the most frequently of the two that I have. It is also a huge size for under ten dollars 2.3 OZ at Walgreens for like eight dollars so you know you cannot go wrong with it.

Ciaté London Extraordinary Translucent:

Much smaller but I got in an IPSY box so I cannot complain. I feel like most setting powders are roughly the same so I can’t really say that there is much difference in my opinion but it’s honestly not something I would buy on my own.

            Setting Sprays:

Colourpop All Star Setting Spray:

I am almost out of this one because it is the one I use every day when I wear makeup. I love it a lot but I do have to have a towel up on me because it does spray out all over the place. Yea, it’s a spray so of course it’s going to do that, but I would buy it again.

Urban Decay All Nighter Settign Spray:

Other favorite, smells like cinnamon. I got a sample o this a while back and I bought a travel sized because I liked it so much and I am again running out of my other setting spray. I use the little size of this at my parent’s house so I guess I have two favorite setting sprays.

So I have a lot of random things in my makeup bag for prep and finishing for my face and I felt like I just needed to dump all of them into one place and here was the most logical place to do it.

Do you guys have any favorites when it comes to prep and finishing with your makeup? Any that you love that I should give a try?

I will see y’all with another blog at the end of the week!

October ipsy Glam Bag Plus Unboxing

            Hey, hey it’s MJ,

I’m just going to dive right into this one, though I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

So this month is the first month where ipsy had included a bag in the Glam Bag Plus and now I am just getting two makeup bags a month. I kind of liked that I wasn’t getting a bag with the plus and now that I am, I am going to have to find new uses for them. This one is cute, I will not lie its black mermaid fabric (you know like the pillows and everything else where you can flip the sequins) with Betty Boop in silhouette on the reverse and a red heart zipper pull. They really went all in with the Betty Boop theme this month. It’s also only about an inch larger all the way than the regular bag.

            What did I get though?

Jolii Cosmetics Spektra stick in Stella

The packaging on this is the bomb dot com (yes that is a mid-2000’s saying that I don’t think I ever said then but I have heard more recently than I did in middle school) but seriously I LOVE the packaging, it looks like a lipstick tube and then you press on the bottom and then pull the tube itself out. The color is absolutely beautiful, I have already swatched it and it is just so pretty. They describe it as a rose quartz shade and I do not disagree though I would call it rose gold but they are about the same shade. I think this was my favorite product out of the whole bag and usually I can’t pick a favorite.

            Lovecraft Beauty Bronzer Palette

This is a nice palette, I have swatched them as well and the darkest shade is a little too dark for my complexion, maybe during the summer not so much but for most of the rest of the year it would not work for me. The two other shades though I am totally okay with. I love the packaging, it’s really simple and really pretty and it’s called Lovecraft and all I think of when I see that name is H.P. Lovecraft and that’s just great.

Touch In Sol No Poreblem Priming Water

It’s rose based so that should be pretty great because I live with a rose water mist on my bathroom counter. I like Touch In Sol because it is a K-beauty brand and usually their formulas are amazing. I am looking forward to trying this but also a little hesitant because I have been burned (not literally) by primers in the past.

Betty Boop X Ipsy That’s So Betty Eyeshadow Palette

I just want to audibly sigh at this one, I chose this product, I chose it and I regret it. It’s an 8 pan eyeshadow palette where only about four of the shades are pigmented, I was really disappointed by the pigmentation and the quality of the product. The shades that do have pigment are really pretty but I was unhappy with the other four shades two of which you can’t really see. There is a really pretty purple shade, it’s pretty in the pan but as soon as I swatched it, it’s just not there and I was so looking forward to playing around with that specific shade. Also there is one matte shade and the rest are shimmer shades which is a rally odd distribution in an eyeshadow palette, the packaging is really hard to open, and it just didn’t wow me. It claims to be a $30 palette and I think I could go buy a drug store palette for under ten with better quality than this. Normally I don’t have much negative to say about ipsy products but this one was a total dud, it may not be for some people but I have used enough eyeshadows that I know that the quality of this is just not there and it’s so disappointing.

            F.A.R.A.H Brushes Midnight Pro Trio

The brushes are gorgeous, the handles are built to be able to hold properly and rest while you work on your face. They are all face brushes, a cheek, buff, and stipple and apparently they are all in midnight blue instead of black and looking at them in the light that is super cool. I don’t have any dark blue brushes and I love them. They are nice and soft and I have several F.A.R.A.H brushes thanks to ipsy so getting a few more that are as beautiful as these are were actually really cool.

Well that’s it for this post and this bag was a little bit all over the place, I’m not unhappy about that because it means I have been exposed to things that if I was walking through a shop I may not have even given a second glance but might now.

Do you want to know how I felt about the other months I have gotten this year and what I got? You can, just click on the month and you can read that rambling post like I hope you read this one, May, June, July, August, and September

Have a great rest of you week everyone and I will hopefully see you Sunday with a new post!

July ipsy Glam Bag Plus Unboxing

Y’all, this post, I wasn’t even sure if it was going to happen. I am not being dramatic and nor is this a “story time” but there was some drama with this package. If you are reading this on Wednesday when it’s published I am moving to my new place and I don’t even have a wi-fi plan yet so you are all going to have to work with me as I get back into the swing of writing posts twice a week since I have been super neglecting it with the moving that is going on. The drama though, I got a notification that this package was delivered to my mailbox on Thursday, at my new place, so I go and I check. There is no key in my box and my package is in one of the parcel lockers but the key is in the wrong mailbox. I go to the post office and let them know, wait for the key, check the next morning, my regular Glam Bag is in the mailbox but no key to be found, I go to the post office again, and miraculously by about 1:30 the key is in my mailbox. It was just a little stressful and I know that it’s just a package but when it says it’s delivered but to the right building on the wrong street you get a little nervous that the person who had my key in their mailbox might have decided not to be kind and keep my package but it’s all sorted to it’s fine.

Okay so beyond that because I don’t like to be one of those bloggers who take paragraph upon paragraph of exposition to get to the meat of the post, like seriously when you are posting a recipe I don’t want to read about it before I actually get to the thing that I went to the post to look at. I saw one blog where at the top there was an option to skip to the recipe and bless that blogger for understanding.

I’m still listening to the Pop Punk playlist I mentioned in Sunday’s post and I have heard Fall out Boy, Mayday Parade, Good Charlotte, and AFI all in the last half an hour and I am still living for it! (not sponsored, ha ha, that’s funny, but I am really enjoying it.)

So what did I get in my July ipsy Glam Bag Plus, while my upstairs neighbors have a rave:

Pixi by Petra Glow Mist:

I have been getting a lot of Pixi products in my Glam Bags in the last few months and I am not complaining about it. Though when it comes to facial mists because it does have oil in it I have to be really careful or I will break out, so this wilpl be an over makeup only product. It smells like good skin care products should smell; not artificial. All of the oils are natural essential oils and I am always happy to see that because I am pretty particular when it comes to what I put on my face. Excited to give it a try though but maybe more in the fall when I want my skin too look dewier if it would look dewy now in the 90-degree heat it would just look like sweat and that is not a look.

Touch in Sol Pretty Filter Waterful Glow Cream:

Again something that smells like good skin care. I love the K-Beauty trend that is still taking over the world. I love the packaging, the box is purple holo and I could not be much more excited about that. It’s so pretty and the product itself is also packaged so simply and it’s amazing. I am really looking forward to giving this a try because for the most part higher end skin care products don’t seem to affect me as much as products I have used in the past have.

Huda Beauty 3d Highlighter Palette in Pink Sands:

Holy pan size Batman! The pan sizes on this product are some of the largest pan sizes for a multi-pan highlighter palette I have ever seen. I don’t know much about Huda Beauty but I have seen lots of people love it so I am excited to add yet another highlighter to my collection, I have a problem when it comes to highlighters they are shiny and therefore some of my favorite beauty products to hoard. You know, like a dragon. The shades are beautiful and they all seem to be a good match to my skin tone so I am excited.

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint:

I have been seeing this product in Ulta and Sephora since I can remember, it’s been around for a while but I have never been a “stain” sort of person, I am more than willing to give it a try because it leaves a nice shade on me so maybe this will be my gateway product into “stains” when it comes to makeup. To be honest I thought it was nail polish when I saw the bottle and applicator from first glance. Also I am not about the contamination life, if I use it for cheeks it will just be for cheeks or if I use it for lips it will just be for lips and that is just a me thing to which you don’t have to agree with.

Thrive Cosmetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara in Brynn:

I got a Thrive product in my Winter FabFitFun box and I love it, I love their packaging I love the fun messages on the inside of the cardboard wrappers and the component, the tube, it’s so heavy. I could throw it at someone and do some damage, it’s probably the heaviest mascara tube that I have ever owned. It is a fiber mascara so I will have to be careful with it, my eyes hate me most of the time and getting fibers in them will not make them like me any more than they already do. The component itself is simple and beautiful I love the silver and teal that I have seen from Thrive before and I am excited to give this a try as well.

I feel like I say I am excited to try every product and that is a truthful statement, I do look forward to trying everything I get even if it sits in my collection for a while. I am always looking for my next “holy grail” product the one that I use for years and years before finding something that I like better and having these subscription services gives me a chance to find those products that maybe I wouldn’t reach for in a store and it gives me the ability to save some money on them to try out and then if I love it to go purchase it and support the brand again.

If you want to read the rest of my Glam Bag Plus Unboxings you can! Check out May and June for more content!

I will be back with another post over the weekend but I don’t know what it’s going to be yet so look forward to that.

Do you subscribe to the Glam Bag Plus? If you do what was your favorite product this month?

Do you have any “holy grail” items in your beauty collection? I would love to hear about them!

Have a great rest of your week!
