MJ’s Best in Beauty 2020

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

Well we are now in 2021, I am still in 2020 writing this but maybe it’s suddenly all sunshine and rainbows, I doubt it. This post is a yearly thing and it is my best in beauty or really it’s my favorite beauty items of the year. This year it’s a lot of skin care more than makeup because this year has been one of those where I have not worn a bunch of makeup and that’s totally okay.

There aren’t many items and many of these have been featured in other posts, like my Updated Skin Care Routine, fabfitfun unboxings, my March Glam Bag Unbagging from last year, and two from my June Glam Bag of this year, and other posts. I have like 150 posts now so y’all are going to have to give me a break if I don’t exactly remember where I have put products before but none of these have been in Best in Beauty yet (you can read 2019 and 2018 if you want, just click on the years).

This year has for sure also been a year where because I subscribe to IPSY I haven’t bought much makeup outside of the boxes and that’s totally fine because I don’t need more makeup.

Makeup Eraser

This is the best invention ever, I use it every day and it’s so good. I don’t have a picture of it now because it’s been a year of using and washing it so it’s not fresh and clean anymore. Though to cut down on makeup wipes this is a great $20 tool that really cuts down on the use of disposable wipes and I kind of like that idea because you can go through 20 wipes in a week and that gets expensive and it fills up your trash can real quick. I will eventually buy another because I love this one so much.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

This palette has been one of those that I love and use pretty frequently, well when I wear a full face of makeup which at work isn’t something I do very frequently and with wearing masks it’ almost pointless to put on a full face and I don’t go out, I play with makeup and now that I have a mirror I will probably play with it more.

Ofra Highlights in Star Island and Covent Garden

I usually mix these two actually I love the champagne (Covent Garden) and almost white gold (Star Island) shades can be a little much together. I love them separate but layering them with Star Island on top is really pretty and it’s a little blinding in highlighter terms. I am currently getting highlighter on my keyboard because I am swatching as I type to make sure that I am making sense. I mean I never make sense but I try. With Covent Garden on top it’s much more noticeable, Star Island makes it slightly more subtle.

Sunday Riley The Martian Toner

I ran out of this one and I threw away the container, I’m not even sure if they are making this anymore which makes me so sad because I loved this product so much. I used all of it and it was so good on my skin. I will have to really try and find a new toner after I am done with the one I have now. I don’t why they discontinued this but I love Sunday Riley and I have a bunch of products, all of them have been absolutely amazing for my skin.

Tula Purifying Face Cleanser

This was another that was in my updated skin care routine and I am almost out of it, I have been using my small sample ones lately because this one is at the end of its life, it’s getting too thick to get out of the container but my skin loved this cleanser this year and I would totally buy another one because of how good it was. If this was really more skin care it would just be all of the facial skin care I have been using this year but I’m limiting it to four.

The Better Skin Co. Epik C Serum

Serum is not something I had in my routine until this year and I love this one. I have a few others that I can’t wait to try and lately I have just been moisturizing and this is not the time of year to skimp on your skin care routine so I need to get back into it soon. I love this serum though. I noticed when I did do my full routine that my skin didn’t break out as much but right now with masks acne is no joke and I am getting sick of breaking out again.

Tatcha The Water Cream

I got this one as a sample and I need to go and buy one but I have so many facial moisturizers that I just can’t justify the expense. I loved this one though while I had it and I will eventually purchase this and use it all the time. It left my skin feeling so moisturized and it was so light weight that I have not found one that I like as much as I liked this one.

Colourpop Pretty Fresh Setting Spray

This was a follow up to the All-Star setting spray that I loved and ran out of this year. I like this one but it’s not a good as the other one. It’s a pretty good setting spray and again with having to wear a mask to work every day I judge on how much makeup is in the nose bridge area of my mask at the end of the day, this one keeps it to a minimum but there’s none that are perfect.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

This one I had a travel sized version of and oh my goodness this kept my makeup almost exactly where I applied it. I really liked this one but the price tag is just too much even though it’s amazing and it smells like cinnamon. I really did enjoy using this one and I am glad that I gave it a chance but I don’t know if I will buy it again.

MAC Cosmetics In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara

This is a sample size but I would pay the $24 price tag for this one. I know that I am saying that some things are worth and not worth the money but this one for is would be. I love this mascara it gives the length I like and the volume without clumping or flaking off throughout the day. You can touch the lashes and nothing comes off. It comes off really easily even though you will look like a raccoon when you take it off but I for sure have found a new favorite mascara to add to my favorite mascara pile. My plan for now is just to go through all of the samples that I have and use them until I find my new favorite because why not.

Alright I think that’s about enough for today, most of the pictures I am posting have already been on the blog because why take new pictures?

I will be back at mid-week with another post and hopefully it will be my 2021 goals post, if not it will be my favorite 2020 Bullet Journal pages but until then I hope you have a good start to the week!

Winter 2020 fabfitfun Unboxing

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

So I feel like first of all I need to address the elephant in the room, I don’t know when this post was going up, it might be going up just after Christmas or closer to New Year who knows at this point with the shipping of this box.

Okay so this season is for sure absolutely insane with shipping and believe me I completely and totally understand because this usually is the largest shipping season of the year and this year I can imagine it has increased tenfold because of people wanting to send gifts to family members they can’t see and just all of the COVID restrictions that are in place and to that end I am going to say everyone is doing what they can to help everyone get their things shipped and delivered. So let me say my piece and that will be that from me on the issue.

I got an email on December 1st saying that my box had shipped, well at least the label was created, it did not leave the shipping facility in California, (from a company I have never heard of until this instance) until the 15th. It went to Texas and that was on the 19th, I got no updates until the 22nd and it was still in Texas just finally accepted by the USPS. As of this moment of my writing this section of my post I have no idea when it will actually make it here because Christmas is in just a few days.

Normally I don’t complain but when it is something that I pay for an have never had a problem with in the past, including two other boxes that have shipped during the lockdown, it does get a little frustrating when there are few to no updates on something that I look forward to getting.

I have seen a lot of others in this same boat because of a variety of reasons all with similar and some more heightened frustrations, I didn’t order anything for anyone else for Christmas with this box, I wanted it to do my unboxing but I don’t have it yet. I look forward to getting these boxes every season and this year has made me want these treat myself instances because they make me feel like things are normal even though we are so far from normal and we are learning a new normal so I’m just a little frustrated by this situation. That however is all I am going to say about it, there isn’t anything I can do besides wait and that’s just what I am going to have to do.

Well we are on the Monday after Christmas and my box has finally arrived and I have some thoughts before I talk about what I got which there are for sure some hits and misses with this box and for the most part I am not too jazzed about the box as a whole which makes me sad. The choices this time felt limited and while some of them were really nice some of them just felt cheap. My box only contained two large items and both of those were customizations, there was no packaging in the box like the little paper stuffing so things were moving around and I know that is in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint which I applaud them for but to that end I was afraid things would be broken when I opened the box.

All of these opinions are my own because I need to get this out because or me this box missed the mark and quality that I have come to expect from fabfitfun since I subscribed in 2018. I know there is a pandemic on and getting products is difficult so I cannot fault them for that but this box felt thrown together and not in a good way.

Normally at the end of each section I would say what the other options were but in the last few boxes the choices have gone up so much that it just becomes an annoyingly long list at the end of each paragraph. I know I am sounding bitter about this but the box has changed over the last year and I’m not sure if it’s for the better, especially with this box.

UnHide Lil’ Marshmallow Blanket

So this was something that I chose because I didn’t want anything else from the first category and it’s my favorite thing in the box, I am already wrapped up in it as I am writing this post. It’s really soft and just a little heavy which I am not upset about. I like the fact that it is faux fur and that it’s a really nice neutral grey that will go well on my couch or the chair in my office or somewhere in my apartment. It’s a nice lap blanket size so curling up in it will cover your legs but it is not a full sized blanket. There were six other options in this category ranging from Vera Bradley to Summer & Rose, to Mobile White.

Impressions Vanity Company LED Vanity Mirror

I wanted this one, this is something that I need in my life, a vanity mirror because I am a glasses human and using a regular mirror means that I am far away from my face and I can’t see anything. I do have some issues with this product however, the arm on the back that allows the mirror to be adjustable is loose and that means that the mirror doesn’t stay in place where you put it unless it as at the very top or the very bottom of its swing. The batteries that were sent with the box don’t work, that might be because they got so cold but I put them in the mirror and got nothing, I plugged it into the USB on my computer and it finally lit up but why send batteries that don’t work? Other than that I like it, I will make it work but it should work out of the box. There were five other options in this ranging from Tula to Lilly Pulitzer, and Murad.

Dr. brandt skincare pores no more Pore Purifying Cleanser

I love Dr. Brandt skincare and I have the pore no more primer and it’s pretty great, this was the other choice that I made because the other options didn’t fit my normal preferences. It’s a cleanser and I will be starting to use it soon because I am almost out of my regular cleanser so this came at a good time. I like the ingredients including tea tree, white willow, and salicylic acid which is pretty potent when it comes to skin care. I also just really enjoy the packaging, blue to white ombre is always cool. Other options in this category ranged from more dr. brandt and Laura Geller with five other options in total.

From here on out the products were picked for me.

Kate Spade New York Workout Socks

I love a good no show sock, these are barre socks and I have never owned barre socks, they are pretty comfortable, I put one on to see the fit. I will probably use these for yoga socks but I can’t imagine wearing them in shoes because they have grippy dots on the bottom of all of the choices these would have been my choice if I was an annual member. You get two pairs which is nice and they have a nice embroidered spade on each sock. There were four other options in this category and they ranged from Tula to Muk Luks.

Beautaniq Beauty Guardian Angel Revitalizing Eye Gels (set of four)

They look like angel wings according to the magazine picture. Who doesn’t like a good under eye mask, I have many of them though and through no fault of the companies that are featured in this box this is where is starts to go downhill for me. I will be able to throw these in with my travel stuff when I eventually get to leave my house again but for now they will sit in the fridge with the rest of my skin care that’s waiting to be moved into rotation.

Paradox Lucky Stars Blemish Patches

It’s a sheet of star stickers that help with blemishes? I think? I honestly don’t know. They are cute and apparently help with break outs but I am not going to Coachella or a music festival and I am an adult so I can’t just walk around with star stickers on my face and that feels weird to put stickers on the face because knowing my luck I would end up being allergic to it and having a star irritated into my cheek.

Daily Concepts Daily Facial Dry Brush

Another facial care product that’s three in a row now. I do not dry brush my skin because I think that it would be too harsh for me. I will give it a shot when I have a chance but this product felt unmatched to a lot of the other product in this category which was a set of scrunchies, this whole category felt really thrown in at the last minute. Again not at fault of the company that produced it.

Londontown Get Well Nail Recovery

I don’t use a lot of nail products anymore and the outer plastic top came cracked so I had to be really careful when I opened it to not crack it further. It’s a nail strengthener which is great for people who do a lot more with their nails, I worked in a nail salon in high school and during that time this would have been great but now as an adult who takes hair, skin, and nail vitamins it’s different. Also anymore the smell of nail polish gives me a headache and this stuff really smells.

So overall, did it feel worth the price tag? Not really. Did it feel worth the almost month wait I had to get it? Not really. I won’t be unsubscribing, I am not that kind of person unless a number of boxes disappoint me, this year has been hard for a lot of companies and subscription services I have seen such an uptick in angry comments on social media and that’s what 2020 has been though, a dumpster fire and as I am writing my last post of 2020 I am allowed to say that.

I am hoping that the spring box not only comes in a more timely manner, the shipping timeframe on this one was crazy but also has more quality instead of the thrown together feeling I have right now with this box.

This post is super long because I had some things that I needed to get out and say, I try really hard to not complain on the internet, I just complain on the phone to my mom but this was one of those things that did bother me because there was like 15 days where the box sat in a warehouse and I know I’m not the only one who’s been dealing with that. There is no reason for so many people to have products and packages lost through however they were shipped but here we are.

If you want to see what else I got this year you can! Spring, Summer, and Fall

Well I will be back in 2021 with new posts and I hope everyone has a happy, safe, and socially distanced New Year’s Eve and Day!

November 2020 IPSY Glam Bag Plus Unboxing

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

So this showed up in my mail a few days ago and I am not going to ramble as much as I usually do at the beginning of a post, I feel like I don’t have anything else to say that I haven’t already said a dozen times in 2020 posts. I will say this though, if you are able to hug your loved ones, you never know when you won’t be able to do that anymore. Someone I know lost her husband in a car accident earlier in the week and we take even simple words to our family members for granted, tell you parents that you love them, hug your pets, and check in on family members virtually that you can’t see right now. I know we are coming into the holiday season and a lot of people aren’t going to be able to celebrate in person with their family this year but please everyone be safe. Wear a mask, social distance, and if possible avoid large gatherings.

That for sure brought down the mood a little bit but it needed to be said, please be safe and responsible this holiday season because cases are on the rise again.

Right so onto the actual post, like a huge 180 from what I was talking about but I feel like it needed to be said because people aren’t being smart and it’s causing problems for others.

The Bag:

It’s cute, I still don’t know how I feel about getting the bags, I like the little glam bags for the regular Glam Bag but the drawstring bag for this one is still going to have to grow on me. I like the color blocking though and it’s a nice light weight bag that seems like a breathable material so it might work for something that might be on the damp side, maybe mask storage?

The Products, what did I get?

Violet Voss Coral Pop Eyeshadow Palette:

This was one of the two that was picked for me and I think it was a pretty good choice on IPSY’s part. So for years I have honestly called Violet Voss Violent Voss because I apparently can’t read. All the colors are super nice and there is this beautiful pop of a coral red. This palette is mostly neutral and it is going to go in my travel pile of palette’s because it’s a cute little six pan palette. The pigmentation and the holding power of this shadow is actually pretty great and I am actually looking forward to dipping into this palette.

Girlactik 3-in-1 Lip Sparkle Balm in Twinkle and Periwinkle:

This is was the other IPSY chosen product and I do not have a lot of lip crayon products, I also like Girlactik, I have one of their lip balms and I actually really like it so I am looking forward to giving these two a chance. They are both actually really nice colors, I thought that I was going to like Twinkle more just because of the shade on the packaging but I think that I like Periwinkle a little bit more. They are very sparkly so if you are into that, this product might be for you. Also I am always afraid of crayons to be honest because I am never sure how to sharpen them, I am afraid of ruining them in the process.

Tula Skincare Eye Feel Amazing Colling & Brightening Hydrogel Eye Masks:

I love Tula, that is my current facial cleanser and I love the brand so when I saw a Tula product in my choices I wanted to so bad and that was one of my choices. I am really looking forward to this because I need to get back into meditation in the new year because I do miss taking a nice skin care break with a mask on or doing an eye mask because let’s be real I am tired like all the time and I would like to not look like I am super tired all the time. There are four in this set and I am really looking forward to using them, they are going in my fridge as soon as I am done taking a picture of them.

Flesh Touch Flesh Highlighting Balm in Pinky:

It’s kind of blinding y’all, I actually really like this even though you really don’t get much of it. I really love highlighters and that is not a secret, I should eventually do a new or updated highlighter round up but that will be for at some time next year. I feel like there are a lot of posts that I want to write next year. It a beautiful shade (seriously when I am writing these posts my hand is just covered in swatches) and I have seen Flesh before but I have never purchased anything from them, this might be my gateway product.

Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream

I see a Murad product and I jump at it, I love Murad so much and it’s just so expensive. Murad was kind of my gateway into good skin care products and I really like everything I have tried from them. I like the idea of a retinol night cream even though my skin is still pretty wrinkle free but that could change and this year has for sure added some small wrinkles to my face so I am really excited to give this one a try but I have some other that I need to use first that are hanging out in my fridge. I do love a good night cream though, I am still finishing off my Korres Wild Rose one and I love it so much.

So overall this bag was kind of amazing, I loved it so much. I feel like maybe the Glam Bag Plus is finally starting to find its stride though I still think that giving more than four choices would be awesome but I don’t run the company. I really like IPSY and there is so much good about it, it for sure outweighs any of the problems. I am excited to see what my choices will be for next month, as long as it’s not eyeliner.

Do you subscribe? Did you get any really great products this month?

If you want to see what else I have gotten this year in my Glam Bag Plus’s, you can! January, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, and October!

I hope everyone has a really great rest of the week and I will see y’all over the weekend with a new post!

October 2020 IPSY Glam Bag Plus Unboxing

Hey hey, it’s MJ.

How is it already half way through October? There is no way that that is true but here we are and I mean this is my favorite time of year it starts to cool down and the leaves start to change, I know it’s like the most basic white girl thing to say that my favorite season is fall but it is. I also love Halloween but the not so spooky versions.

The choices this month felt more diverse so I am hoping that that trend continues as we move through the rest of the year and beyond.

The Bag:

On the front is like what I would call a zodiac wheel or an all seeing eye but it’s surrounded by makeup items and I really like it, I think that the Glam Bag is similar and I wasn’t sure if I would like the draw string bag but I actually am really liking it.

The back says ‘you’re magic’ and I thought that was the cutest thing.

What did I get?

Lovecraft Beauty Basic Rituals Eyeshadow Palette:

I love this palette it is the perfect Halloween palette for quite a few darker looks. I also love the packaging and the holographic moth on the front because it all feels very Halloween and I can get behind a brand that sticks to their theme. The pigmentation isn’t bad on any of the colors even the white which is not a shade that I have many of. So overall pretty great little six pan palette. This was their first choice for me, I didn’t even pick this and it’s great.

Tarte Shape Tape Setting Powder in Translucent:

I just love saying “shape tape” in funny voices and I cannot tell you why but this was their other choice for me which is a pretty great product to get, I don’t use setting powder all that often because I just setting spray and go. I love Tarte though and that is really not a secret so having another option for when I do use setting powder is never a bad thing.

The Balm Cosmetics Autobalm Grl Pwdr Cheek Palette:

I need to stop swatching while I am typing because I am just covered in eyeshadow and cheek products. I like the two shades of blush in this and the bronzer, the highlighter is a little dark for my complexion but I am not complaining. I like The Balm and the pigmentation is pretty great on this one as well. I like the little travel palettes that I have been getting because it means that I can carry them a lot easier to travel with and still have choices on what I put on my face.

Skin&Lab B Plus Calming Cream:

K-beauty for the win, I picked this one because I have been focusing more on skin care in 2020 because I have had the time to do so, it only takes a pandemic to really develop good skin care routines. I can’t really tell you much about this one without trying it but it claims to use B5 vitamins to calm the skin and regulate sebum levels and that all sounds great to me.

Thrive Causemetics Brilliant Eye Brightener in Aurora:

I love Thrive, their mascara is my favorite, there are plenty of posts on the blog about that one. I have one of the other eye brighteners and I really like it but that’s in shade Stella which is a lighter champagne this one is more of a rose gold champagne and it’s a beautiful shade.

Overall my Glam Bag Plus this month was amazing, I really enjoyed it after having like two months of just okay bags. I feel like this post is kind of short and I don’t know if that’s a good or a bag thing but here we are either way.

If you want to see what else I have gotten this year you can! January, March, April, May, June, July, August, and September!

Hope everyone has a great start to the week and I will see y’all in a few days with another post!

What Was in My September 2020 IPSY Glam Bag?

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

So getting this bag this month was an adventure, I know with COVID and everything else that’s going on shipping times are messed up which I get but my problem was that I got an update saying it was delivered after not having much to go on with tracking and so I went over to my mail box and it wasn’t there. Now this is not the first time this has happened because there is a building with the same number on the next street so my packages have sometimes ended up there when we get a new carrier. This was one of those times so I went to the post office, my local post office is great they are always really helpful (shout out to the Bentonville, AR post office!) and it was in my mail box the next morning.

The Bag:

Like the Glam Bag Plus this month it was a corduroy which again made me feel like I was in the nineties and I am never upset for a little bit of nostalgia, it was two tone one side the same maroon as the Glam Bag Plus and the other a mustard yellow which was giving me major 90’s vibes because I think I had a pair of pants this color in like first grade and the bag is nice and soft. Also it looks very much like Gryffindor colors so I wasn’t mad about it.

What products did I get?

Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional Hydrate Primer:

This product is one of those that people swear by, I like Benefit but I don’t buy a lot of it because it’s just one of those brands that I haven’t really explored, their Roller Lash mascara is one of my all-time favorites for mascara so I know that they make good stuff. Porefessional is just one of those products that I have heard about for years just never tried, so here I get to try this teeny tiny little sample and see what I think about it. I did try it out on my hand and it soaks in quickly and that part of my hand feels really hydrated so maybe I will start using primers again because of this product, who knows only time will tell.

Pūrlisse Beauty Youth Glow Vitamin C CC Cream in Fair:

Normally BB and CC Creams and foundations from subscription services are a crap shoot for me because my skin is so fair so when they say fair sometimes it’s still too dark or the wrong undertone for me. This one isn’t a terrible shade match but man under the flashlight from my phone it is shimmery, it’s almost like a highlighter, I know it is a “glow” product but it’s a little much for me. Maybe when applied and things go onto it it’s better but we’ll see.

Realher Confidence in My Glow Highlighter:

It’s beautiful, I love the packaging and the shade, I have never heard of the brand but I love it so much and I have only swatched it once. It pigmented and I love highlighters so having one that I like as much as I like this one already it’s kind of great. I don’t know what else I can say beyond that because overall the effect of the packaging and the product has absolutely sold me on it.

Tarte Big Ego Mascara in black:

I don’t use a lot of Tarte’s mascaras, I have used Maneater and Lights Camera Lashes and they are both great. The brush is almost as long as the tube and figure eight shaped to an extent which usually tells me it’s volumizing so I will give it a try because I don’t think I have ever received or bought anything from Tarte that I don’t love.

P/Y/T Beauty Day-To-Night Cool Eyeshadow Quad:

I like the fact that there is a guide and the shade names on a plastic insert, normally with quads like this you don’t get those but it’s a great addition to tell your customer where they should put the shades for a day look and a night look. Most of the shades are decently pigmented, I feel like when I swatched the shade “coffee run” I didn’t get much out of it but it is the all over color so I wouldn’t expect a hugely noticeable color pay off with that because it is supposed to blend in a little more with the eye lid. The rest of the shades though are beautiful and lovely neutral shades that I really like.

So that was my bag for this month, I feel like my post for this one isn’t super informative but it’s been one of those months where I have been distracted by some things and I have been waiting for this bag to show up, literally I usually have it about a week before a post like this goes up but this one goes up on Sunday, I got the bag on Friday and I am writing it Saturday morning so it was cutting it a little close to me having to switch it with my other post for this month but here it is.

Do you subscribe? Did you get any great products this month? General thoughts? Let me know in the comments.

If you want to read any of my other openings for my Glam Bag this year, you can! January, March, April, May, June, July, and August.

I hope everyone had a great week and has a great start to almost October, I’ll see y’all with another post on Wednesday.

MJ’s Bathroom Organization

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

So truth be told I don’t have a lot of space in my apartment, especially in my bathroom, it’s kind of a mess for someone who likes skin care and everything else so I do require some space and I don’t have it so I have had to get a little creative with the organization of some of my spaces. I got spoiled with the bathroom storage space at my last apartment but things have changed since then.

This is just going to be my storage cabinet, I don’t utilize the space under the sink except for cleaning supplies and toilet paper so that’s not a space I go into all that often because it’s just not conducive for organization.

All of this is going to make me look like a hoarder and I am aware of that but when you subscribe to a few different beauty and lifestyle boxes this is what happens you accumulate things and so you have to organize things.

Shelf One/The Bottom Shelf:

This shelf is for short things mostly or things I use pretty often, this is where I store my everyday makeup essentials as well as some miscellaneous other things besides these two bins, all of these bins are from Walmart and I got them around school supply stock up time but I bet you could still get them in the office supply section and I have a bunch of them used for different things around my apartment because they are the perfect size.

Bin one:

Bin one is body scrubs and facial cleanser plus a few other facial care items like serums and toner. Whenever I run out of a facial cleanser I can reach in and grab one which is kind of nice. I don’t used scrubs all that often but having them in one place makes me life so much easier in the long run.

Bin two:

Bin two is misc. skin care that doesn’t really have another home it’s all of my body care items and some misc. other things, this was one of those bins that I wasn’t really sure what to put in because it was just what was leftover when I sorted everything on the floor of my office one afternoon in like July because I was going stir crazy, I am still stir crazy nothing has changed but at least my bathroom cabinet is organized.

Shelf Two/ The Middle Shelf:

This shelf is full of the tall things and the things that I need pretty easy access to, like my hair care everyday items, my dry shampoo, and my lint roller. As well as my rubber ducks, they used to sit on the counter on the sink but I had to move them and I will eventually find them a new home but that today isn’t today.

Bin one:

This one is facial lotion and hand lotion as well as where I keep all of the non-makeup samples I get from IPSY, it’s a lot of facial lotion and again I have only gotten into really caring about my facial care in the last two or so years and that means that I have accumulated lotions. Also having services like the ISPY Glam Bag Plus can be a pain because you cannot go through a full tube of a facial lotion in one month, there is a part of me that wishes that service was every other month but I digress. My hands are always dry so being able to grab for one to stick in my purse is always really great.

Bin two:

I have a lot of body lotion that I don’t use all that often I forget to do it after I get out of the shower and I need to but some days, it’s just not on my mind. That is actually all that’s in this basket which is insane to me, all of the other bins are a mix of things but this is all body lotion or cream.

Shelf Three/ The Top Shelf:

Unlike a bar the top shelf is not the best shelf in my bathroom cabinet, this shelf is reserved for things that I don’t use very often. I also store my extra shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant up here but bin wise this is my least used shelf.

Bin one:

Alright this bin is all of my excess makeup that I don’t use but I don’t want to get rid of, you pay for a thing and you want to keep it but I have a feeling that this bin will eventually just be dumped because I don’t use this makeup and why keep it?

Bin two:

It is what it says it is, nail polish and hair care, odd combination I know but it is what it is. I used to wear a lot more nail polish because I worked in a nail salon so I was surrounded by it for a long time but I don’t wear it so much anymore because I pick at it and peel it off so what’s the point of it? It also houses all of my hair care items, I don’t like having a lot of stuff in my hair, I don’t like my hair feeling dirty and when there is a lot of product in it that’s exactly what it feels like and I am not a fan.

Bonus: My little copper basket of my skin care routine items.

This is one of the only things that sits on my bathroom counter all the time and putting it all in a bin really helped me organize the space or at least feel like it’s organized and having this cute little basket that was for spices until about two and a half months ago I have been actually putting things away instead of just leaving them on the counter around my sink.

I have for sure had to improvise with space but these bins are great, I have a bin in the fridge full of my sheet masks, I have one for my bullet journal stickers and such, and one that sits in my makeup storage that is full of my blush, bronzer, highlighters, and contour items. They are just really great bins and if you are a small space human like I am finding organization and storage that works for you is most of the battle.

I like organizing, it’s something that helps ease my anxiety and I can tell when I am really anxious because all I want to do it organize and reorganize because it gives me control over something so having the ability to organize my spaces does help when I am feeling anxious. Organization keeps me focused and it gets my head back in the right space.

            Any small space organization tips?

I will see everyone later in the week with another post, hope you have the best week you can!

What Was in My August 2020 IPSY Glam Bag?

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

Back at you all with another post, I am actually switching two because I was going to write a “what does MJ listen to” post but I am just not in the mood for that this morning and I already got my Glam Bag for the month so I’m switching them, because I can. They are mowing in my apartment complex today and I think one of them just ran over a rock so that was fun. No one cares but I am going to tell you anyway because that is my life experience right now. Some week’s you just have only a certain capacity for things and right now this post which is routine for me is what I can handle, by the time this is published I will probably be in a completely different head space but for now; this is as good as I can get.

The Bag:

It’s holo, sorry I have been watching SimplyNailogical on YouTube for years now and he obsession with holographic items has made me say “holo” a certain way. I love the bag though it’s simple and feels almost vinyl like but making it holo for sure added a lot of appeal to me to actually use it because it looks fun and sometimes that’s all you need.

Products:

Araceli Beauty Jalisco Eyes Single in Sombrero:

I like the brand but I am not a huge fan of the color by itself, this is one of those shades that becomes an accent shade in a larger more elaborate look, it will make a fine base it is just a little orange for me personally. I love eyeshadows (I have many many palettes) but sometimes the single shadows really do miss the mark for me because if you are going to give me a single shadow give me one that is unique or really pops don’t give me what I would consider a base shade, it’s neutral to an extent but it’s just the wrong shade for me.

Céla Crème de la Crème- The Very Best Cream:

The first thing that gets me with Céla is their packaging, I absolutely adore the marble effect, it brings me so much joy and it’s just so classy, I love their lotion I got a full sized Céla product in my April Glam Bag Plus this year and if we are being honest with ourselves I thought I got it last year; that’s how long this year has been. It smells like orange and grapefruit and it just has a smell that is familiar I just can’t place which is going to bug me until I figure it out. I really like getting small hand creams because that means I can stick them all over the place in my apartment, my car, and in my bag so I always have hand lotion on me because dry hands are never fun!

Kiss & Smick Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Tavarua:

I for sure had to Google what Tavarua was, it’s an island in Fiji and that sounds great. I feel like the shades for a lot of things were off this month, I love the feeling of the crayon but the color is a little too dark for my normal looks. Maybe for autumn I can make it work but it’s like they really stuck with orange and warm undertones this month and I cannot do warm undertones, I need cool undertones. I love the packaging, it’s simple and honestly you don’t want components to be crazy, sometimes it’s fine but for every day application nice and simple usually works for me.

Outré By Use Me Instant Repair Hair Mask + CBD:

One day I will maybe figure out the obsession with CBD in like everything now. I could research it but I feel like it’s just in most everything now. I have never used a hair mask and I just dyed my hair again for the first time in a year, I need to tone it so the color actually holds because my hair is relatively dark but it was dyed red for years and then I let it grow out so all of those professional dying sessions have completely left me. Hair masks seem like a cool concept like a really deep conditioner that repairs all of the bad decisions that you make with your hair. My issue is the application, you put it on to towel dried hair, let it sit for five to ten minutes, and then rinse it out; it’s a lot of steps. It smells good though and I am looking forward to giving it a try, maybe it will change my mind on putting a lot of product in my hair.

GlamGlow Brighteyes Illuminating Anti-Fatigue Eye Cream:

I chose this one because it’s GlamGlow, if you know skincare at all the brand GlamGlow pops up frequently and their products are pretty expensive. I have used their bubble masks in the past and loved them and I am always on the hunt for a good eye cream so when this was offered to me I jumped on it. I feel like I have been branching into skin care more than cosmetics because lets be honest with ourselves in my early 20’s and late teens I didn’t take care of my skin and suffered the consequences of break outs and just a mess but now that I take care of my skin, like my mother has been telling me to do since I can remember; don’t doubt your mom! I haven’t had as many breakouts outside of the hormonal ones and my skin feels better so it’s a win. I am looking forward to giving this a real try and seeing if this is the one that I end up buying in full size because lets be honest with ourselves sometimes a sample is nice because you can try it before you buy it which is so helpful when you have sensitive skin. I would have saved my skin a lot of pain in my younger years if I would have sampled things first instead of just picking something off the shelf and hoping for the best.

Overall a great bag this month from start to finish, coloring was a little off but I liked the products and I can make them work. If you want to see what else I’ve gotten this year and how those things made me feel you can check those posts out, January, March, April, May, June, and July

I will see y’all later in the week with another post so have a great week!

Summer 2020 fabfitfun Unboxing

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

Back at it with another unboxing, every four months that becomes half of my posts and I am not super mad about it. I got my box a few days ago and I was so excited to get it, I watched it through the tracker for a week and a half and I was so anxious to just get in my hands on it.

I cannot believe that it’s almost July, I feel like it was March like a week ago but also a decade ago with quarantine and all of the crazy going on right now.

All views and opinions in this are all my own, like they always are and always will be no matter what.

So what did I get? As usual I am not going to tell you the value of my box (it was between $225.50-$477 dependent on what you got in your box) also I am going to start with the items that I chose or had a choice for in my box.

Dapper James Straw Bag with Floral Scarf:

It’s a real cute summery bag and I really like Dapper James because Reese Witherspoon is amazing. I chose this one because of all of the options this one fit my desires best for the moment, I like bags and this one is open at the top with a snap so it’s good to take around during the summer and maybe when the world opens back up (safely) I will actually get to use it but it may be a next summer thing and I’m not too mad about it because it is neutral enough to cross years not just be in style for one season and then it doesn’t match the times anymore. The other options were the Pottery Barn Mason Ceramic Diffuser in Solstice, the Do Not Age with dr. brandt Triple Peptide Eye Cream, the L*Space Tie Dye Towel, the Yumi Kim Wireless Charging Pad (which is super cute!), or the LashesMD Eyelash Conditioner.

Business & Pleasure Co. Cooler Bag:

Again a really fun summer thing, this season the seasonal feel was really evident and I really liked the idea of a larger cooler bag in my life but not one that is a full sized cooler, my dad got me a Yeti cooler bag for Christmas and it’s huge and bulky so having something nice and small is nice when you don’t need the giant cooler to accompany you somewhere. It is a really cute thing, my only problem with it is there is separation in the fabric on the top but I can sew it back in at some point. In the picture I stuffed it with stuffing so it would actually stand up and not collapse back down on itself. The other options were the Michael Kors Bedford Travel Passport Wallet (If it had been in black I would have gotten that), the HydroPeptide Moisture Reset Face Oil, the Isaac Mizrahi Blue and White Kimono, or the R+Co Television Perfect Hair Shampoo+Conditioner.

The Giving Keys Mini Key Necklace:

It’s very small and delicate but according to the packaging the company supports a good cause, ending homelessness and I am completely behind that message. The key says believe on it and I cannot wait to wear it because it’s just a little thing that has a strong message behind it. I prefer silver jewelry to gold so this one was a pretty good choice on my part. The other options were two Coola products the Mineral Face Organic Matte Finish Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 or the Mineral Face Matte Finish Cucumber Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, the TOMS Sydney Sunglasses (if I wasn’t a prescription glasses wearing human I would have gotten these), Blaq Peel off Mask+ HydroGel Eye Mask with Hyaluronic Acid (Set of 5) (I have these and they are amazing but I don’t do peel off masks), the Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream (this was a throwback and I got this one in my Winter 2019 box), or the Drybar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler (got this on in my Winter 2019 box too).

Terre Mère Aloe and Tea Tree Toner:

Toner is pretty new in my life and this was the first product on this list that I didn’t have a choice in and I am totally fine with the option I got. It’s a glass bottle y’all, a glass bottle. I really like toners now and I am glad that they have come back into my life since the toners of the mid-2000s that my skin absolutely hated. I am about halfway done with Sunday Riley one so having one in the wings is going to be great. The other options were the Zoë Ayla Ice Roller, or the Silked Satin Pillow Case.

The Lifestyle Co. Beach Mist:

It’s aloe, mint, and lavender. It’s supposed to be an after sun spray I think but let’s be honest, my skin sees the sun so rarely that I will use it as a facial refresh spray like I do rose water. I love the packaging and I am excited to have it in my beauty arsenal. The other options were the Isaac Mizrahi Loves xo, Sienna Vase, the amika Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray, or the Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum.

The next three were picked by fabfitfun out of seven potentials as their picks so I will list the four I didn’t receive first, the Winky Lux Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil, Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Mask, 6 pack (which I think I have already), the Murad Essential-C Cleanser, and the Spongella Coconut Verbena Hand Cream (which I am glad about because I am not a huge fan of the smell of verbena.)

Riddle Oil Original Roll On:

This is one of those perfumes that matches your body chemistry to produce a scent and mine is lightly floral, I tried it on the day I got the box and it lasted for hours! I even took a shower and I could still faintly smell it even afterward. I am a huge fan of this product because I don’t wear a lot of perfume but this one is really nice.

Cali Cosmetics Foot Cream with Menthol in Tarocco:

To be honest I thought the brand name was Tarocco, just an FYI to start this out with. It summer so foot cream is an essential because sandals and things. I am excited to give it a try because I try to moisturize my feet after every shower, I sometimes don’t succeed but I still try.

MakeupDrop Hybrid Makeup Applicator:

It’s a sponge and a silicon applicator that’s like the best of both worlds and I really like MakeupDrop, I have one of their silicon applicators and it’s really nice so having another product from them is pretty cool and I love the concept of having a multipurpose tool like this in my makeup bag.

Overall, per usual, I loved my box there was a lot better balance of products than in boxes past though I still miss the fitness items but as a company grows and changes it makes sense to source a more diverse selection of items that your members want.

Want to know that I got in my Spring box this year, you can, just click on it!

See everyone later in the week with another post,

What was in my May 2020 IPSY Glam Bag?

Hey, hey it’s MJ,

I am trying to keep a schedule on blogging, as we can all see from my posts this month it’s not going well. I am trying, I really am but let’s be real life is crazy at the moment.

The Bag:

Like the Glam Bag Plus this was also an ombre, this one however was a pink to yellow and much larger than the one in the Glam Bag Plus (it would have made more sense in my head if they switched them but I’m not in charge of things). I do like the bag though, it’s pretty basic with a top zip but I like it.

The products:

Yensa Skin on Skin BC Concealer in Fair Cool:

When I opened this it almost pressurized on the inside so a bunch of product just kind of leaked out so I got to try it without really having a choice to do so. It’s about the right shade though it is just a little dark for me, so hopefully during the summer it might be close to the right shade because even though it’s a cool tone it is still a little too yellow for me. I love the packaging though so that is one upside to it, I like concealers but they are hard to match in a subscription service like this.

F.A.R.AH Brushes Long Blender (25EL) Brush:

I like how the brush looks but I am at this point of, do I need any more brushes? The answer to that is no, I know that it’s easy to throw a brush in and call it done. It’s an IPSY exclusive which is cool but it’s a basic eyeshadow brush. Cruelty free and vegan so I can’t be mad and it’s a nice brush to shove in a makeup bag to go because it’s decently packed but not too fluffy and not too dense.

First Aid Beauty FAB Pharma Arnica Relief & Rescue Mask:

I like First Aid Beauty it’s a great brand that I don’t use very often but probably should use it more. It is an anti-inflammatory mask so that is exciting for me. It’s a leave on mask so that is also exciting because at this point the only masks that I really want to take the time to remove are sheet masks. It has a lot of benefits that I am all for in a facial product so I am excited to give it a try.

TheBalm Cosmetics AutoBalm Pic Perf in St. Charles Ave:

I have an AutoBalm palette and I really like it, this is not a shade I already have so that was exciting and it’s a nice neutral brown so I was excited about that. I have a problem with single shadows though for the sheer reason that I have to remove them from their packaging to put them in something else if I don’t want to carry around a bunch of tiny shadow containers. I wish that companies would put them in containers that are easier to remove the product from because with this one I will have to do some major excavation and hope not to break the shadow pan if I ever want to take it out. I like the shade though and that’s really all that matters.

Tarte SEA Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Mask in Strawberry Jelly:

It smells like strawberries and it is very small. I like the packaging but I rarely ever use lip treatments, some sugar scrub here and some lip balm there but pretty much nothing else. I also don’t like the feeling of jelly like items on my lips I avoid lip gloss (I did not before college but I do now) I don’t like when my lips stick together or feel sticky, it’s not a feeling that I like. I will give it a chance because I love Tarte but this was kind of the odd outlier in my bag this month. Maybe I’ll like it, who knows.

Overall I liked the bag this month, it wasn’t the best and it wasn’t the worst so I don’t have much to complain about. If you want to see what else I have gotten this year check out January, March, and April

Do you subscribe? Did you get any favorite new products this month?

I’ll see everyone in a few days with a new post!

May 2020 ipsy Glam Bag Plus Unboxing

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

So another month and it’s just about the middle and I am FINALLY posting something, I had so many plans for this month but my life again decided to kick me a couple of times. But that is not what we are here to do! Bright spot in what is kind of an interesting time in the world.

I am excited to talk about what I got in my glam bag plus this month because it was actually a really cool box.

One thing that I need to say is that this month it came in a larger box than usual, see the photo and you’ll understand. Last month it came in a bubble mailer and I liked it but this month they chose the box again and I don’t know why they changed it or what the next month’s shipping container will look like.

I love the bag, it’s blue to yellow ombre and I am such a huge fan of ombre. I love the little tassel zipper pull and the bag shape. I am liking the variety of bags they are coming out with in recent memory and the inside of the bag is yellow with what looks like gold confetti and I love it!

What did I get though? Let’s talk about the products that I received. Again I miss the little card that talks about the products

Beauty For Real Hi Def Mascara in Just Black:

I have never seen a mascara wand that is this little, I don’t mind it but it’s mascara and I like mascara that’s pretty well established. It goes on pretty well and it does collect on the lashes really easily. My only complaints are that it is a little clumpy but let’s be real there is a good chance that is used error and it takes a long time to dry. It doesn’t take a lot to take off though so that in my book is not a bad thing. I am excited to actually give it a nice long wear test to see how it does in that regard.

Coloured Raine Cosmetics Mimosa Moment Palette:

Cute little to-go palette and I was looking for a new to-go palette to carry around with me and I really like the colors in this one it’s a nice balance between matte and shimmer shades and for a palette this size it has a really nice mirror. The shades are actually pretty pigmented which I am really thankful for. It is an ipsy Glam Bag Plus exclusive and I am glad that it is better than the last Betty Boop exclusive palette from last year.

Sugar Rush sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick in Cupcake:

Sugar Rush reminds me of Wreck-it Ralph but it is a tarte brand and I am a huge fan of tarte. It smells like frosting which I cannot be mad about. This shade though for sure is a fall/winter shade not a spring/summer shade so I will try to rock it again in the fall. It goes on smooth and doesn’t dry down too quickly which is nice for a liquid lip and it doesn’t make your lips feel dry after application which I have had in the past with liquid lipsticks and it’s never fun to have to reapply a liquid lip several times throughout the day. Seeing it in the picture description and in the tube I thought it was going to be too dark in general but it’s actually not to bad so I am pleasantly surprised.

Nomad Cosmetics x Sydney Bathers Kiss of Sun Palette:

I really like it, I don’t want to ruin the designs in the pans though so I haven’t really tested yet. (I was really careful and touched the center of the pans so I didn’t ruin the designs just yet.) It is super pigmented and the shades are really nice. I love highlighter so this palette is just another amazing addition to my highlighter collection. All the shades are named after Sydney beaches and I kind of love that idea, I have a Germany themed palette from them and well and I love the themed palettes and collections like that.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment:

Sunday Riley, this was my choice because it was Sunday Riley, I have not met a Sunday Riley product that I don’t like. I have never done a lactic acid treatment so I am looking forward to trying it. I am still getting more and more into skin care and complexion products. It smells like the inside of a Lush store so I am really excited to actually try it on my face and the spot where I put it on my hand is nice and shiny so I am hopeful this does wonders for my face.

Overall it was a great Glam Bag plus and I loved every product and I am looking forward to next month!

Do you subscribe? Did you get a favorite product this month?

I’ll see everyone later in the week with another post!
