Was Getting the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Summer 2021 Mystery Box Worth it?

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

I have been meaning to write this post for weeks, I got this box like a week after I ordered it. I just haven’t had the motivation to put words to paper for the blog.

Sorry that I missed Wednesday. I wrote a post and I was sad and I had to get some feelings out in it, I don’t feel comfortable publishing that. I just don’t, I should be, but here’s the problem. I don’t let people into my problems, especially on a public and semi-anonymous forum on the internet. It’s just not who I am.

So back to the post! I promise, this is going to be a fun one.

I am going to answer the question right off the bat, was the $100 price tag worth it on this product? Yes. Was it worth getting? Yea.

I did get a duplicate in this box that I also got in my last box, but that is the risk that you run when you get mystery boxes and I am not upset about the duplicate I got because… well you’ll see. I love the idea of a mystery box, I am still really wanting a mirror, like any mirror from the brand because that is the one thing that I really want and don’t have. Maybe next time.

So what did I get?

Velour Liquid Lipstick in Calabasas:

I got a mini one of this same shade in my spring box, I really like the shade though so not mad. I love a good liquid lip and the JS liquid lipsticks never disappoint. I don’t really know what to call the shade besides red, the website calls it brick mauve, okay. It’s a beautiful shade though especially as we start to get into the autumnal months.

Single Pan Shadows:

All of these are from the Blood Sugar palette (which has such cool packaging) and I really like all three shades, they are:… Well give me a second because I forgot to take a picture of the back of them and already put them away. They are: O Positive, Extraction, and Intravenous. They are all nice shades and I am a sucker for eyeshadows so I never find fault in them.

Magnetic Palette:

To put all the single pan shadows in! And it’s pink! I love a good magnetic palette, all of the ones that I currently have are not clear fronted and so much bigger, this is such a good size to slip into your makeup bag and take it with you. I now have six out of the nine shades that you would fit into here actually in it so I don’t have a bunch of loose single pan shadows.

Velour Lip Scrub in Pink Grapefruit:

I have used another lip scrub from the brand before and love it. I do a lip scrub like once a week, I should do it more often and I love the smell of this one. I am one of those weird people who actually like grapefruit. It’s bitter, I can be very bitter, so it’s fitting.

Tinted Lip Balm in Blood Stain:

The name is a little off putting but it’s a really nice red shade. I would say it’s a deep red almost ox blood color but let’s be real I can look at something red and say it’s red. Red is not a color that I use frequently because my complexion has red undertones because of rosacea and that means I have to be careful. I love the shade though and it’s a tinted lip balm so all the fun of a lipstick with the benefits of a balm.

The Gloss in Table Top:

Here’s the repeat, I don’t think I need to talk about it again. I am not mad that I got a repeat because the other stuff was super cool.

Star Ranch Eyeshadow Palette:

The shades in here are breathtaking, I love them and I cannot wait to actually play around with this palette. I think this was launched in the box and that is super cool. I moved from corn fields to seeing cows on my way anywhere in this area so I love seeing livestock in the fields. The idea of a ranch has always been really fascinating to me. I love the names but I always do. This is one of those palette’s that is unique enough that I will be using it as accent colors and loving it every time. Like the color Casper Mtn. is probably my fave because it’s beautiful and so unique.

Green Crocodile Cross Body:

This is ridiculous and I love it, I have never gotten a bag in one of these boxes and this one for sure is a cool one to have. It’s just cool. It’s huge too, usually with bags like this they are small, this one is actually a functioning bag, not just a cute little accessory. I don’t really know what else to say about it though besides the fact that I plan on using it at some point in the near future. Who doesn’t need/want a ridiculous bag in their collection that actually functions?

Overall it was a cool box to get, did I need to get another one? No, I wanted another one. Sometimes you just need something to make you feel better when things aren’t great in your life. I am really hoping they come out with a Halloween one because I think that would be cool. Super lame, but I would rock a shirt that has the Star and J’s cut out of a pumpkin. I super would.

I will be back later in the week with another post, so until then, I hope that everyone has a great start to the week. Stay safe, happy, and healthy!

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Spring Mystery Box, Was It Worth It?

Hey hey, it’s MJ,

April is birthday month and I wanted to get myself a present because you know, I’m a year and (at the time of this being published) 9 days away from being 30 and I am not looking forward to the big 3-0. It shouldn’t be a big deal but I feel like I need to accomplish more before I hit that number.

I decided to buy this because I really did like my last box almost two years ago and I like the brand. No matter the controversy and all of that, I like the brand. I love the quality of the items I have gotten in the past and that’s in most cases what matters to me. Yes, is he inflammatory? Yea, but who isn’t? Also his dogs are super cute.

Short answer to the question asked in the title, yes. Long answer, let’s get into that.

So what did I get? I got the deluxe box, I would have gotten the 4/20 box for funzies, but that’s my actual birthday and my initials are MJ, I will let you extrapolate meaning from that without telling you what my actual name is. I figured getting that would be a little too pointed so I stuck with the Deluxe Box instead.

Spoiler, I am kind of surprised I didn’t get any highlighters because those are such a big part of the brand, that’s okay though I have so many highlighters already.

Jawbreaker Palette:

I almost bought this palette when it came out because it was so bright and fun. I didn’t end up buying it because I don’t need any more palettes, no matter how much I love them. I love the shades though and I cannot wait to play around with this palette. The shade names make me laugh and one I will have to blur a little bit before I post it because I try really hard not to have any profanity on my blog. (In real life I swear a lot but here, I try really hard not to.) I love this palette though and I am so excited to own it. This is actually my first JS Cosmetics palette no matter the fact that I would like to have all of them.

Single Pan Shadows:

All of these shades are from the Cremated palette, Life Insurance, Burial Gown, and Goodbye. I like the shades, they all go together and I am never mad about single pan shadows because you can mix and match them with other palettes without having a full sized palette.

Automatic Eyeliner in Resting Rich Face:

I normally don’t wear eyeliner because it’s a lot of liquid eyeliner now but I used gel pencil eyeliner for years and this one is like a taupey (yes I am aware that is not a word but we are rolling with it) green. I actually really like the shade and I am not going to be mad to actually try and use it, also the name is like the best thing ever.

Enamel Pin Set:

I like pins, I have no idea if these are exclusive to the box, I honestly didn’t check the website to find out but I really like them and I love the kind of Sailor Jerry style to them. I think my favorite one of the four is the broken mirror that says ‘beauty killer’ I don’t know why but that one is super cool.

Velour Liquid Lip Mini Red and Pink Bundle:

I was shocked to see a lip bundle in this box. It’s one of those pieces that people keep the unicarton as decoration. I have seen that online and I love the shades. Lipstick is never a bad thing in my mind. I like that they are mini’s because I can just drop one of them in my bag and go. The Velour Liquid Lipstick line is probably one of my favorite lines of liquid lipsticks that I have ever tried. I love the shade names. The quality of the packaging from JS Cosmetics is always above and beyond and this is just another example of that.

The Gloss in Table Top:

I don’t wear gloss, I wore a lot in the mid-2000’s when everyone was wearing a lot of lip gloss. I have not worn it really since then but this gloss, I love it. I am actually wearing it as I am writing this post, it started out sticky but I have been wearing it for about 45 minutes now and it stopped being that sticky feeling you get with most glosses and feels more like a balm with just a little bit of stickiness. I would buy more of these glosses, which is never something I thought I could say because I am not a gloss fan. I am a fan of this gloss.

Velour Liquid Lipstick in Birthday Suit:

I thought it was ironic that I got a lipstick called ‘Birthday Suit’ in the box I bought myself for my birthday. It’s a red, orange, pinkie nude. At least that’s what it looks like on my hand, I swatched it and I really enjoy the shade. On it is really great and I want to really see what it looks like with a full face of makeup. I would say it looks more deeper blush pink when swatching and more tan pink on my personal lips. I love a good nude lipstick though so I am excited to add this to my lipstick collection.

Diet Shane Lip Balm:

I watched the series like many other people did when it came out. I love the lip balm, it is really nice, but the person it’s named after is problematic. (I know all of them are problematic) I love a good lip balm though and the packaging is amazing, again JS Cosmetics packaging never disappoints.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics JStar Tee-shirt:

I couldn’t find this one on the website, the coral one is on the website, but it seems like I get yellow shirts which I really like. The shirts I get from JS Cosmetics are always super soft. I order a size larger than I need because they are so comfy to wear around. I feel like all I have been saying is how much I like the stuff that I got but I really do and the apparel from the brand is so good.

So that was what I got in my mystery box. I could have gone for a larger size but I am good with this one. I like this one better than the last one I got for sure. I got a palette this time and maybe eventually I will end up with a mirror. I want to try the concealer eventually and if and when he comes out with a foundation, I will buy it. Problem being with that I would want to see the shade and try it because I am pale, there are some brands where even their lightest shade is too dark for me. I is pale.

Would I get another one in the future? Yea, sure, why not. I know that I risk getting duplicates if I would get boxes in the future but that really doesn’t matter to me. I like the brand, the quality is amazing, and I really enjoy the things that I got.

I will be back later in the week with another post, I hope everyone has a great start to the week, so until then stay happy and healthy.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Summer Mystery Box, Was it Worth it?

Hi, how are ya? (Yes those are my opening remarks and I am sticking with them!)

So I have been a Jeffree Star fan since the MySpace music days, I know that he can be a bit controversial but I have never really seen him that way, I was in middle school when I found out who he was and somehow it was totally okay with my mother for me to listen to him no matter the content of the Plastic Surgery Slumber Party album. I have been coveting his makeup brand for a few years now and I finally pulled the proverbial trigger and got one of his mystery boxes. He has done a few mystery box launches this year and I have been holding out on it. I decided that as I moved into a new place and a new chapter in my life, same book, feel like the same chapter some days, but I am trying to be positive. I decided it was time to dive into a mystery box and hope that I would love whatever I got since I have no products of his and I have just been watching launches go by and drooling over every single one.

It took only a week to get here and that was such a great turnaround time even with the sheer volume of orders that I can almost guarantee came through their warehouse in that span of time, God Bless the warehouse team, you guys are rocking it.

So what mystery box did I get? I got the deluxe, you know go big or go home right? That was the largest box and according to his Twitter and Instagram those sold out in 15 minutes, I was cleaning my old place so I set an alarm and waiting until they went live, like I was anxious about it, seriously.

I was really interested to see the mystery box exclusive liquid lip stick that was in the Deluxe and the Premium boxes and I can for sure say that it does not disappoint. The shade is just called ‘?’ and I kind of love that. It adds this air of mystery that I love about the mystery box trend. I am going to say this right here right now; I love the color. It is stunning and I am a huge fan of pinky nude shades and so this one is right up my street. One of these days I will purchase one of the crazy shades from his collection because they are just really nice shades and I love the formula.

So in total it was a lot of lipstick, which I was expecting and I wasn’t upset about it because it meant that I got some really interesting shades to add to my lipstick hoard. I did swatch them all with their color names, that’s right your girl swatched and is posting it on a blog instead of just saying “I swatched it” and then nothing, I am getting better at this, I promise.

Next shade I got was Mannequin, it is a really nice taupey nude shade and it is a nice shade for more autumnal look, I like the shade because again, I tend to lean toward more nude shades when it comes to lipstick so having another one in my collection I am not upset about.

Third shade was Diva and I think this was the shade that was named after his dog, Diva, I am such a sucker for dogs and the Pomeranians are so cute, like I watch his Insta Story and love seeing the dogs every time they are on. Back to the lipstick though, I love the shade it is beautiful and pink so I am excited to have a reason to wear this, or no reason at all besides I feel like it.

Final lipstick was Poinsettia and I think besides ‘?’ this was my favorite shade I got, I love a metallic lip and this shade is amazing, I didn’t know it was metallic until I opened the packaging and I just grinning for a solid thirty seconds because it was so pretty. This for me is also a more autumnal and winter shade and let’s be real, I will be wearing this shade a lot this fall and winter because it is so pretty.

Last swatch on there is a lip pencil in the shade Allegedly, I have about five lip pencils and I will say I think this one is my favorite, not only because the component itself reminds me of Sailor Moon or a magic wand but because it is so creamy going on, it is soft but it was also traveling across the country during like the hottest week so I can’t complain. If it supposed to be that soft then cool, it’s beautiful.

So that was it for the lipsticks, I also got a Supreme Frost highlighter in Hypothermia and let me tell you, it’s so cool, really glittery and has a really nice purple/green shift in the glitter with a copper undertone or base and I was digging it, it would probably look a lot better on a full face of makeup instead of just on my hand so I decided against posting that picture.

I also got a Velour lip scrub in Strawberry Gum, I am going to confess something; usually I hate the smell of artificial strawberries but this didn’t bother me, I have actually opened it up a few times just to smell it and that for me is a rare occurrence with anything that smells like fruit and isn’t the actual fruit and some perfumes. I did try the product and my lips felt really smooth so it did its job.

Okay so beyond makeup what did I get? I got some accessories as well beyond the makeup and I really do wish that there would have been a star mirror involved somewhere in the box because that would have been amazing.

I got a tee-shirt which is so soft and so cute, I love it and I could have ordered a size down, it’s the signature “Hi, how are ya?” In a florescent yellow with the logo on the front so it looks subtle from the front and then turn around and bam! Really cool back to the shirt.

I also got a Popsocket in just about the same shade of orange as the box which was really cool, I would love to see the swappable Popsockets come out like this though because I wirelessly charge and my case doesn’t allow for charging without a swappable Popsocket. It’s really cute though and I can’t wait to be able to put it on my phone at some point. It’s not in the featured picture because I put it under some things while I was taking pictures and I couldn’t find it for like an hour.

There was also a metal straw as well, now I have been using metal straws for almost a year now and I eventually want a Final Straw so I can whip it out at restaurants and maybe save one turtle. I love the fact that it is a bent straw though and it feels really cool, almost matte and I love the Jeffree Star signature pink color.

So overall, would I suggest it? Yes, I would if you are just starting out your collection or wanting to grow your collection and you have the money it is worth it. Some people may disagree and would I have loved to have seen a palette or a mirror in here? Yes, I would have but that’s the fun of a mystery box, you never know what you are going to get. Like I said above I have been a fan for years but have been holding off on purchasing the makeup and now that I have some of the Star cosmetics in my makeup collection there is a good chance that I will purchase more or at least more mystery boxes as they come out in the future.

If you could get a mystery box from any brand what would the brand be and what would you really like to see in the box?

I’ll see everyone at some point around mid-week with another post. I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend and a great start to the week!
