How is it already half way through October? There is no way that that is true but here we are and I mean this is my favorite time of year it starts to cool down and the leaves start to change, I know it’s like the most basic white girl thing to say that my favorite season is fall but it is. I also love Halloween but the not so spooky versions.
The choices this month felt more diverse so I am hoping that that trend continues as we move through the rest of the year and beyond.
On the front is like what I would call a zodiac wheel or an all seeing eye but it’s surrounded by makeup items and I really like it, I think that the Glam Bag is similar and I wasn’t sure if I would like the draw string bag but I actually am really liking it.
The back says ‘you’re magic’ and I thought that was the cutest thing.
What did I get?
Lovecraft Beauty Basic Rituals Eyeshadow Palette:
I love this palette it is the perfect Halloween palette for quite a few darker looks. I also love the packaging and the holographic moth on the front because it all feels very Halloween and I can get behind a brand that sticks to their theme. The pigmentation isn’t bad on any of the colors even the white which is not a shade that I have many of. So overall pretty great little six pan palette. This was their first choice for me, I didn’t even pick this and it’s great.
Tarte Shape Tape Setting Powder in Translucent:
I just love saying “shape tape” in funny voices and I cannot tell you why but this was their other choice for me which is a pretty great product to get, I don’t use setting powder all that often because I just setting spray and go. I love Tarte though and that is really not a secret so having another option for when I do use setting powder is never a bad thing.
The Balm Cosmetics Autobalm Grl Pwdr Cheek Palette:
I need to stop swatching while I am typing because I am just covered in eyeshadow and cheek products. I like the two shades of blush in this and the bronzer, the highlighter is a little dark for my complexion but I am not complaining. I like The Balm and the pigmentation is pretty great on this one as well. I like the little travel palettes that I have been getting because it means that I can carry them a lot easier to travel with and still have choices on what I put on my face.
Skin&Lab B Plus Calming Cream:
K-beauty for the win, I picked this one because I have been focusing more on skin care in 2020 because I have had the time to do so, it only takes a pandemic to really develop good skin care routines. I can’t really tell you much about this one without trying it but it claims to use B5 vitamins to calm the skin and regulate sebum levels and that all sounds great to me.
Thrive Causemetics Brilliant Eye Brightener in Aurora:
I love Thrive, their mascara is my favorite, there are plenty of posts on the blog about that one. I have one of the other eye brighteners and I really like it but that’s in shade Stella which is a lighter champagne this one is more of a rose gold champagne and it’s a beautiful shade.
Overall my Glam Bag Plus this month was amazing, I really enjoyed it after having like two months of just okay bags. I feel like this post is kind of short and I don’t know if that’s a good or a bag thing but here we are either way.
So getting this bag this month was an adventure, I know with COVID and everything else that’s going on shipping times are messed up which I get but my problem was that I got an update saying it was delivered after not having much to go on with tracking and so I went over to my mail box and it wasn’t there. Now this is not the first time this has happened because there is a building with the same number on the next street so my packages have sometimes ended up there when we get a new carrier. This was one of those times so I went to the post office, my local post office is great they are always really helpful (shout out to the Bentonville, AR post office!) and it was in my mail box the next morning.
Like the Glam Bag Plus this month it was a corduroy which again made me feel like I was in the nineties and I am never upset for a little bit of nostalgia, it was two tone one side the same maroon as the Glam Bag Plus and the other a mustard yellow which was giving me major 90’s vibes because I think I had a pair of pants this color in like first grade and the bag is nice and soft. Also it looks very much like Gryffindor colors so I wasn’t mad about it.
What products did I get?
Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional Hydrate Primer:
This product is one of those that people swear by, I like Benefit but I don’t buy a lot of it because it’s just one of those brands that I haven’t really explored, their Roller Lash mascara is one of my all-time favorites for mascara so I know that they make good stuff. Porefessional is just one of those products that I have heard about for years just never tried, so here I get to try this teeny tiny little sample and see what I think about it. I did try it out on my hand and it soaks in quickly and that part of my hand feels really hydrated so maybe I will start using primers again because of this product, who knows only time will tell.
Pūrlisse Beauty Youth Glow Vitamin C CC Cream in Fair:
Normally BB and CC Creams and foundations from subscription services are a crap shoot for me because my skin is so fair so when they say fair sometimes it’s still too dark or the wrong undertone for me. This one isn’t a terrible shade match but man under the flashlight from my phone it is shimmery, it’s almost like a highlighter, I know it is a “glow” product but it’s a little much for me. Maybe when applied and things go onto it it’s better but we’ll see.
Realher Confidence in My Glow Highlighter:
It’s beautiful, I love the packaging and the shade, I have never heard of the brand but I love it so much and I have only swatched it once. It pigmented and I love highlighters so having one that I like as much as I like this one already it’s kind of great. I don’t know what else I can say beyond that because overall the effect of the packaging and the product has absolutely sold me on it.
Tarte Big Ego Mascara in black:
I don’t use a lot of Tarte’s mascaras, I have used Maneater and Lights Camera Lashes and they are both great. The brush is almost as long as the tube and figure eight shaped to an extent which usually tells me it’s volumizing so I will give it a try because I don’t think I have ever received or bought anything from Tarte that I don’t love.
P/Y/T Beauty Day-To-Night Cool Eyeshadow Quad:
I like the fact that there is a guide and the shade names on a plastic insert, normally with quads like this you don’t get those but it’s a great addition to tell your customer where they should put the shades for a day look and a night look. Most of the shades are decently pigmented, I feel like when I swatched the shade “coffee run” I didn’t get much out of it but it is the all over color so I wouldn’t expect a hugely noticeable color pay off with that because it is supposed to blend in a little more with the eye lid. The rest of the shades though are beautiful and lovely neutral shades that I really like.
So that was my bag for this month, I feel like my post for this one isn’t super informative but it’s been one of those months where I have been distracted by some things and I have been waiting for this bag to show up, literally I usually have it about a week before a post like this goes up but this one goes up on Sunday, I got the bag on Friday and I am writing it Saturday morning so it was cutting it a little close to me having to switch it with my other post for this month but here it is.
Do you subscribe? Did you get any great products this month? General thoughts? Let me know in the comments.
It’s that time of year again FabFitFun time and it’s a great time. I am pre-writing a lot of posts just because I have the time on my hands and maybe I still have some creative spark left in me because y’all the world is tiring.
I loved everything I got in this box, hands down one of my favorite boxes so far! I will say this first and foremost just to get it out of the way because it was on my mind, so in total you get 8 items and there were a potential of 38 items and that is a lot, there used to be a few items that everyone got and I kind of liked that, there was less choice and it was kind of nice to know that everyone got a few really cool things that were picked for everyone and there wasn’t a choice that you could have gotten instead, but things change and companies change so I cannot begrudge them changing and evolving to suit the needs of their fan base and customers.
Seriously though, that is my only complaint and the rest of it is amazing. They are moving to be more environmentally friendly with different box sizes and less paper and confetti that used to come in the box so again good for you triple F looking out for the planet. Also I love the box, the design and the fact that they are changing them to again be more environmentally conscious.
This box was worth anywhere between $214-$544 and like usual I am not going to tell you the exact value of my personal box but it was up there so I was happy about that because who doesn’t love more bang for their buck?
So what did I get? I will list all the choices at the end of the potential other items and let you know all sorts of things as I go because as always these are all my opinions and that’s how it always will be, so here we go.
Botkier New York Trigger Backpack:
I chose this one and I didn’t think about choosing anything else in this category, I love backpacks; I usually carry a backpack but sometimes it’s just too big. So having a mini-backpack to just carry around was right up my street. It’s a leather flap and an I think nylon bottom with cute little front zip pockets. I cannot wait to get around to using it for all of my daily travels (you know when we get to travel again) so this was the choice that fit my style the most. What were the other options that I could have chosen, Botkier New York Bond Tote, Foxybae 25mm Black Curling Wand, Stila Stay All Day Eyeliner and Huge Extreme Lash Mascara, Uncommon James Set of 2 Copper Canisters, Sachajuan Styling and Finishing Cream, Mila Mélange Foldable Cotton Basket.
Soia & Kyo Woven Scarfigan with Fringe
I chose this one too, scarfigan is just a really fun word to say and it’s so cozy and soft. I was wearing it around my apartment last night and I am already obsessed with it. I hope unlike the last cardigan that I got from one of these boxes it doesn’t shed to high heaven. It’s super cute and right now it’s sitting very dramatically on the edge of the chair in my office, I love it so much already because there was some pause about what to choose with this selection and this was the choice that just felt more right to me and I am so glad that I did. The other choices were the Beyond Yoga Hidden Pocket Infinity Scarf, Glossmetics Hair Removal Device, Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Rose Perfecting and Refining Serum, Volition Beauty Celery Green Cream, or the Erno Laszlo Pore Cleansing Clay Mask.
Jenny Bird Leana Pendant:
This is was last thing that I chose and I was happy with this one as well, I like necklaces and this one is simple and I love it, it’s a double chain with a single silver pendant and it’s so up my street. I like jewelry but when you work with elementary aged kids their first instinct is to grab things that hang so I don’t wear jewelry very frequently and that’s okay because when I get to wear it some of the pieces I have gotten from FabFitFun are my go-to’s. Probably because they are simple and fun but also most of them I have chosen which is always a plus in my book. The pendant actually has a good weight to it and that is always good with jewelry; for it to not feel cheap and flimsy. The other options were the Jenny Bird Austin Cuff, Vitamasques Multivitamin Mask Set, Nectar Sunglasses Blue Light Blocking Glasses in Brown Tortiose, Beauty Bakerie Proof is in the Puddin’ Palette. (which I got in my winter box last year and love!)
Masontops Glass Water Bottle with Neoprene in Turquoise:
I was hoping to get this one because I love reusable water bottles, I try really hard to not use single use plastic if I can, recycle if I cannot, and this water bottle is actually really cool. It’s also a two cup mason jar if you take the sleeve off and I love a multitasking item. There is of course a lot of sustainable drinkware out there but this one is super cool in my book. I feel like there isn’t much to say about it though, it’s a water bottle but also a mason jar and it’s as simple as that. The other options were the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel, Skin&Co Roma Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream, Feel Beauty Renewed Pumpkin Walnut Facial Cleaners, or the frank body Original Coffee Scrub.
NCLA So Rich Cuticle Oil in Horchata:
In high school I worked in a nail salon and I for sure took better care of my nails, they are a mess now and it’s fine for me, but we are getting to the time of year where my hands will dry out and my cuticles will shred themselves so having this is actually really good for my cuticles moving forward into the fall and winter. I don’t know why it’s horchata scented, it’s not a bad smell but when I think of nail products I think of essential oils, lavender and things like that, soft spa scents. I like it though and it makes my cuticles feel nice and moisturized. The other options for this were the HIP cutlery Set, Likwid Rx Stress Reliever 100% Natural Ayurvedic Hair Oil, 8 Other Reasons Runway Clip Trio, Harper+Ari Exfoliating Sugar Cubes in Juice Cleanse. (I have this one I got it in my fall 2019 box and I like them) (In brief side note, I had to look up what post that was in and man my posts have become a lot different since then and I’m not mad about it, not one little bit.)
Voesh New York Pedicure in a Box Duo-Pumpkin Spice:
I mean, I guess Pumpkin Spice everything really is a thing, now don’t get me wrong I love pumpkin spice but for a pedicure; sure why not? Again worked in a nail salon I used to get pedicures, I haven’t had a professional pedicure since the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012, it’s been a while y’all but having something where I can do a pretty good job at home is not a bad thing in my book. Like it sounds like it has a lot of boog vitamins and stuff in it so I am excited to give it a try. The other options were either The Laundress New York Crease Release or the Spongellé Boxed Flower in Sweet Cedarwood.
Stone Candles Room Spray in Santal Noir:
I love room spray’s, there is no secret with that I have a bunch of them but let’s be real they are Glade and Febreeze so having a more boujee one is not a bad thing and it smells good with notes of sandalwood and cardamom. It’s beautifully simple packaging makes it something you could put in plain sight and unless someone was really looking at it they wouldn’t know it was room spray. The other options were the Stone Candle Room Spray in Pumpkin Spice (which would have been cool too), NatureLab. Tokyo Perfect Repair Treatment Masque, or the Hythe Tranquility Sleep Mist.
The Beauty Crop Glow Milk in Blind Date:
The packaging is a little milk carton with cow spots and I love it! Also the shade is beautiful a rose gold champagne and a little really goes a long way, I know I got a little more than planned when I was swatching it and it covered most of the back of my palm and three of my finger tips on the other hand so be careful with it. Seriously though, the packaging is next level and it’s some of my favorite packaging in a while with any products so congrats, I love it. The other options were either the Beauty Papier Golden Superfood Shower Gel or the ZiGi &MARAiS Pouch with Stripe.
Overall this box per usual blew me out of the water and I loved it, keep doing what you do FabFitFun because whatever it is, it’s working.
Wanna check out my other FabFitFun posts from this year, you can! They are pretty fun if i do say so myself, spring and summer for 2020.
Do you subscribe? Did you like everything you got? Any products that you were over the moon excited to receive?
I will see everyone later in the week with another post so until then, have a great week!
Okay so let’s be honest, I still don’t know how I feel about the new Glam Bag Plus experience. I wish that there would just be a list of options that you could pick and you picked three from a larger list because this limited choice nonsense doesn’t work for me. No, instead it’s like we give you four choices like this is a multiple choice test and you have to pick what you want out of those four because sometimes out of those four you don’t want any of them. Also I went to customize right after I got the email and one of the options was already sold out. That seems like poor planning. I wanted a set of masks because I like sheet masks and they were gone already, plan ahead for all of the options because then instead of all four options I only had three and that doesn’t seem fair for something I pay for every month. I know it’s only the second month and they are still working out the bugs but it is kind of annoying to want something or get excited for something and it not be something that you can actually obtain. Bait and switch and that’s not good business practice, yes I also know its first come first serve but it should not have been an option for me if it wasn’t available to me.
I also feel like this is becoming more hit and miss to what I like as opposed to the “personalized” experience they hyped up for the whole month of July before the choices started in August.
I will give IPSY this though, they are working with a lot of vegan and cruelty free brands which is a huge win in my book.
Also one more things before I get into the meat of this post, I never got a tracking email for this which is irksome and as I am writing this I just got a tracking email for my regular Glam Bag that shipped a few days ago because I checked the website, it should be automatic when it ships that an email goes out, it used to be like that.
I feel like I am back in the 90’s with this, I remember wearing corduroy pants to kindergarten because it was the mid-90’s and that was a thing you dressed your children in no matter how annoying they were. But I like the pouch, it’s not even really a bag but it feels very fall to me and I am not upset about that one little bit.
What did I get?
Nature’s Cartel Cream Eyeshadow Trio
The shades are Champagne Scandal, 90’s Nude, and Tan Lines from Tahiti, I am not a big fan of cream eyeshadows and I chose this one because the masks were sold out. I clicked a button and then realized too late what I had chosen so this one was an audible on my part. They are nice colors and I like them but I don’t understand from my beauty profile how this was an option for me, I really want to know how they decide your 12 product selection that you can pick from but I guess I will never know.
Space Case Cosmetics Quad
I like Space Case Cosmetics, I have a few of their single pan shadows and this is my first quad, I love the shade names and in this palette they are, Not Rocket Science, Unicorn Horn, Ghost Entered The Host, and Bella Trix. I did choose this one and I wasn’t unhappy with my choice at all because I know how their eyeshadows have performed in the past. They are mostly shimmer shades which is also fine because they can be combined with the billions of other palette’s I have to create some really cool looks.
Murad Environmental Shield Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30
I like Murad and this was the other one that I chose, Murad makes really good skin care, their products usually don’t aggravate my skin but sometimes everything aggravates my skin so I can’t really make a judgement on it until I actually get around to trying it. This one is expensive! So getting it in a bag like this is really great for a budget.
Context Vitamin C All Day Eye Cream
They chose this one and the next one, lots of skin care they choose for me which is a little odd especially when it’s brands that I have never heard of, I love expanding my “liked brands” list so I am not upset about it but I wish that these products came in a cardboard carton so I could understand their benefits without going to the company’s website. The packaging is nice and simple and after Googling the website I have learned some things about it and I like what I see so I am looking forward to trying it out.
Avant Collagen Intense Radiance Activator Serum
This choice they made for me confused me a little because it’s anti-aging and then I looked on the website and the price for this normally made my jaw drop to the floor, I swear I had to physically close my mouth with my hand because I couldn’t get my jaw to do the work for me. I am excited to try it because I have gotten more and more into serums in 2020 so that is always a plus but for now it is going to go with the rest of my currently waiting to try skin care in my fridge.
I liked the bag, like I usually do I just want to complain about it for a minute because that’s how life works sometimes you just need to get that out and then you can see things more objectively. I normally don’t give a “what is my bag worth” number because IPSY for the Glam Bag Plus promises $120+ and I am going to tell you something that Avant Serum is the $120 already but in total my bag was worth $275.58 if I bought all of those today at retail price. So is ISPY worth getting? Yea, I think so you get a really good value for the money you are spending and the products are usually great so if you like makeup and skin care give it a try with either this one or the regular Glam Bag, I don’t know about the Ultimate because I don’t get it, that would be excessive.
This is kind of a continuation to my new makeup set up from last year in a way just because I have gotten more things and that means that I have had to really think about all of the space I have and by that I mean lack of space. Seriously, no storage in this apartment, hopefully someday if the fates line up I will eventually be somewhere better but at the moment it is what it is and there is nothing I can do to change it so I am just dealing with it.
So what’s my organization like?
On the table I have very little, some of my larger palettes, my lipsticks, my all the time brushes, and my foundation and concealer. Fun fact I am actually sitting in front of all my makeup at the moment so make sure that all of this makes sense. I had to clean my makeup table off to actually sit over here so that’s probably a good and bad thing, makes me clean up but doesn’t bode well for the frequency I have been wearing makeup lately. Quarantine and fear have been keeping me from actually playing with my makeup in the last several months.
My tips for storage first and foremost, find plastic storage, Home Goods and TJ. Maxx are not bad places to look if you don’t want to pay full price, Amazon if you kind of know what you want, or if you are willing there are places online that specialize in these items, ro so I am told.
Desk organization items can also be great tools. To be honest the thing that holds my palettes on my table is a desk organizer, I have one on my desk that holds all my notebooks so do with what you have.
My brushes are in a flower pot, I have no idea where it came from but I have it and it’s full of brushes, my other brushes are in a juice glass that I had in my kitchen. Seriously those little Ikea tumbler glasses are great for some many things! Glasses work for tall things. My mascara, lip liners, and misc. other cylindrical objects are in a beaker that I got at Michael’s during Halloween season several years go and I repurposed it for all of that.
Everything else in my makeup collection is in a three tiered cart, I got this at Micahel’s as well it’s just a multipurpose crafting cart, you can get them at Ikea too, that’s where my mom got hers that she uses for quilting so find something that can do double or even triple duty if it has to.
Top shelf is all palettes because I have a problem, but it fits all of them nicely so I can’t complain.
The second shelf is my little basket full of application tools as well as any of the inserts that come out of eyeshadow palettes that give you look ideas. The little basket I got at Wal-Mart and it matches the one in my bathroom, again you can find little wire baskets pretty much anywhere and you can find a size that would work for you.
The little crate on this shelf should be familiar if you read my bathroom organization post because I have six of these in my bathroom, you even got to see one in my Bullet Journal supplies post but this contains all of my highlighters, bronzers, contour, and blushes because I needed a container to organize all of them. I didn’t want them all loose all over the shelf because that makes me all kinds of anxious.
The bottom shelf container is full of all the makeup samples I have gotten from IPSY because again I wanted all of them in one place and knowing that they are all in the same place means that I can add to it or look from something and it’s going to be in there.
There are a few loose things on this shelf like my magnetic palette’s which I need to work on because one of them just doesn’t want to hold things, there is a good chance it was the magnet itself that I put on the highlighter pan but still, it’s kind of annoying.
So there it is, my organization, it may not work for you but it’s something that has worked for me even though I do my makeup in the bathroom, I am still looking for a good makeup mirror that would make my life so much easier because I am visually challenged and using a mirror like two feet from my face is a challenge.
Any tips and tricks? I would love to hear them.
I will see everyone later in the week with another post so I hope everyone has a good week!
Back at you all with another post, I am actually switching two because I was going to write a “what does MJ listen to” post but I am just not in the mood for that this morning and I already got my Glam Bag for the month so I’m switching them, because I can. They are mowing in my apartment complex today and I think one of them just ran over a rock so that was fun. No one cares but I am going to tell you anyway because that is my life experience right now. Some week’s you just have only a certain capacity for things and right now this post which is routine for me is what I can handle, by the time this is published I will probably be in a completely different head space but for now; this is as good as I can get.
It’s holo, sorry I have been watching SimplyNailogical on YouTube for years now and he obsession with holographic items has made me say “holo” a certain way. I love the bag though it’s simple and feels almost vinyl like but making it holo for sure added a lot of appeal to me to actually use it because it looks fun and sometimes that’s all you need.
Araceli Beauty Jalisco Eyes Single in Sombrero:
I like the brand but I am not a huge fan of the color by itself, this is one of those shades that becomes an accent shade in a larger more elaborate look, it will make a fine base it is just a little orange for me personally. I love eyeshadows (I have many many palettes) but sometimes the single shadows really do miss the mark for me because if you are going to give me a single shadow give me one that is unique or really pops don’t give me what I would consider a base shade, it’s neutral to an extent but it’s just the wrong shade for me.
Céla Crème de la Crème- The Very Best Cream:
The first thing that gets me with Céla is their packaging, I absolutely adore the marble effect, it brings me so much joy and it’s just so classy, I love their lotion I got a full sized Céla product in my April Glam Bag Plus this year and if we are being honest with ourselves I thought I got it last year; that’s how long this year has been. It smells like orange and grapefruit and it just has a smell that is familiar I just can’t place which is going to bug me until I figure it out. I really like getting small hand creams because that means I can stick them all over the place in my apartment, my car, and in my bag so I always have hand lotion on me because dry hands are never fun!
Kiss & Smick Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Tavarua:
I for sure had to Google what Tavarua was, it’s an island in Fiji and that sounds great. I feel like the shades for a lot of things were off this month, I love the feeling of the crayon but the color is a little too dark for my normal looks. Maybe for autumn I can make it work but it’s like they really stuck with orange and warm undertones this month and I cannot do warm undertones, I need cool undertones. I love the packaging, it’s simple and honestly you don’t want components to be crazy, sometimes it’s fine but for every day application nice and simple usually works for me.
Outré By Use Me Instant Repair Hair Mask + CBD:
One day I will maybe figure out the obsession with CBD in like everything now. I could research it but I feel like it’s just in most everything now. I have never used a hair mask and I just dyed my hair again for the first time in a year, I need to tone it so the color actually holds because my hair is relatively dark but it was dyed red for years and then I let it grow out so all of those professional dying sessions have completely left me. Hair masks seem like a cool concept like a really deep conditioner that repairs all of the bad decisions that you make with your hair. My issue is the application, you put it on to towel dried hair, let it sit for five to ten minutes, and then rinse it out; it’s a lot of steps. It smells good though and I am looking forward to giving it a try, maybe it will change my mind on putting a lot of product in my hair.
I chose this one because it’s GlamGlow, if you know skincare at all the brand GlamGlow pops up frequently and their products are pretty expensive. I have used their bubble masks in the past and loved them and I am always on the hunt for a good eye cream so when this was offered to me I jumped on it. I feel like I have been branching into skin care more than cosmetics because lets be honest with ourselves in my early 20’s and late teens I didn’t take care of my skin and suffered the consequences of break outs and just a mess but now that I take care of my skin, like my mother has been telling me to do since I can remember; don’t doubt your mom! I haven’t had as many breakouts outside of the hormonal ones and my skin feels better so it’s a win. I am looking forward to giving this a real try and seeing if this is the one that I end up buying in full size because lets be honest with ourselves sometimes a sample is nice because you can try it before you buy it which is so helpful when you have sensitive skin. I would have saved my skin a lot of pain in my younger years if I would have sampled things first instead of just picking something off the shelf and hoping for the best.
Overall a great bag this month from start to finish, coloring was a little off but I liked the products and I can make them work. If you want to see what else I’ve gotten this year and how those things made me feel you can check those posts out, January, March, April, May, June, and July.
I will see y’all later in the week with another post so have a great week!
Well this is the first month of a new format so I will say my opinions and hope that in the coming months it gets better. So you can personalize three of your products now and most of the products suggested to me were moisturizer, eyeliner (which I still don’t wear), and mascara. Each choice gives you four choices of products and I feel like if they are going to do something like that they should just give you the whole selection of products that they are offering in that particular month. I know that this is the first month and they are going to hopefully send out a survey because I was not the biggest face of all of my choices so I felt like it didn’t give me a lot of options that if I had a larger selection I would have chosen, seriously it was a lot of eyeliner and mascara, moisturizer too and they had already chosen a moisturizer for me so I don’t understand why I was given that option multiple times. Granted I did choose a moisturizer for one but my problem with that was it was the only product that I actually liked/wanted of the four choices they gave me.
I don’t know what I am going to do with these drawstring bags in the future but I’ll figure it out. It’s fine and all the products fit in it but it just doesn’t feel as quality as the bags every month. I think I would rather just not have a bag at all at this point.
Picked for me:
Huda Beauty Demi Matte Cream Lipstick in Game Changer:
Okay, I like this one but it’s not exactly the right shade for me, there is too much orange in it and I look better in cool tones so while this is a beautiful color it will for sure have to be a more fall shade for me. I love the packaging but let’s be real Huda Beauty’s packaging usually is. It is a demi matte lipstick and it feel like a mix between a gloss and a lipstick which is an odd consistency but I don’t mind it.
Murad Perfecting Day Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30:
I love Murad I have used them for a few years now and I have actually been looking at this exact lotion online for a few months now but I have a lot of moisturizer to get through but it’s fine. It claims to be very hydrating and I always need that especially when it’s consistently like 95 degrees here and it’s just humid so all you are doing is losing all of the moisture out of your body and I know that now as we are getting into the fall and winter my skin will get so dry.
Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara in Brynn:
I mean I chose a repeat product because this is my hands down favorite mascara of all time. The packaging is heavy and I cannot recommend this mascara any higher. It’s just so good. I feel like I can’t say much about it because I have already put it in multiple posts, which you can read; they are my July IPSY Glam Bag Plus from last year, and my Top Beauty of 2019. I love it so much.
Wander Beauty Frame Your Face Precise Brow Gel in Clear:
I like Wander but this was the least objectionable out of my options the other two I remember were an eyeliner and a mascara and again it felt like lot of these were the options like they were trying to clean out stock. It’s a clear eyebrow gel and I haven’t really used eyebrow gel in a long time but it’s a much smaller more precise brush than the ELF one I used in college.
Dermedicine Advanced Skincare Weightless Face Moisturizer SPF 25:
Another moisturizer in my box this month and I chose this one because again this was the most tuned to my skin care needs of the other products which I honestly cannot remember at the moment. I am looking forward to giving it a try though because I feel like I have gotten so into skin care in the last few years because skin is important so having all sorts of moisturizer is not a bad thing.
Complex Culture All Over Shadow Brush:
You get points every month for reviewing the items and I haven’t redeemed anything in the two and a half years since I started getting IPSY bags, so some of my points have for sure expired but I wanted to redeem something and the Complex Culture brushes are really nice and so having a third one is not a bad thing in my makeup bag. It’s a cute fluffy little shadow brush and I cannot complain about it because it meant that I got an extra item in my bag this month.
Overall with this bag, I am hoping that it’s just a learning curve, it’s taking the reviews and insights of their customers and actually it improves because there just will eventually something that will give and it won’t be the best. Four options is a little weird because that means that there are several products that you don’t have a choice on and if you are going to give me a choice let me pick from all the items for the month, let me make my decisions between 30 items or however many there are that month, not 12 that are arbitrarily chosen for me. I suppose only time will tell but I guess in the coming months we will find out how this change stacks up and if it is really all that revolutionary like they made the hype out to be.
Trying to get two posts in a week and that means that I actually have to write blog posts, that’s a good start, right? So here we are in August truth be told I have not worn makeup since about April because time isn’t real anymore and I don’t leave my house so here I am talking about makeup when I haven’t worn any in quite some time but here we are anyway.
This is for sure a more of a what I have kind of post as opposed to a what are my favorites kind of post but I will still tell you my favorites as I go.
I don’t use primer very often, I did use a color correcting primer from NYX for a really long time, I don’t so much anymore but when I do put on a full face I will put a primer on to help everything stay where it’s supposed to be. I also normally wear primer in the fall, winter, and spring but during the summer, it’s just too much when it feels like 100 degrees outside and you just don’t wanna.
I have a bunch of tiny primers because of my IPSY Glam Bags so while I took a picture of them I am not really going to talk about them because there are so many (10 to be exact).
Ciaté London Watermelon Burst Hydrating Primer:
Got it last month in my IPSY Glam Bag plus and I am excited to have a go at it. I like watermelon so we will see how I feel about it.
Touch in Sol No Pore Blem:
I have used this one several times and love it, it’s just a really light primer with rose water and I really like Touch in Sol as a brand because that is also my current moisturizer and I love it so much.
Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer:
I like Dr. Brandt’s products and having this in the wings is a great thing. I don’t really have much to say about it because I haven’t gotten the chance to try it but I am excited to.
I use concealer every time I put on makeup because I just look tired at all times so having concealer is really important to me.
There is a reason that I am not a huge fan of every shade being the same name and then they are vastly different colors, like both of mine are fair and they are vastly different shades.
Tarte Shape Tape in shade Fair:
This is the one that I am currently using and I really like it, it is worth the hype that surrounds it. This is one of the lightest shades and I really need to get their shade porcelain but I think when I was at Ulta they were out of it and so that was unfortunate, when I am tan this shade is great but in the dead of winter it’s too yellow.
Colourpop No Filter Concealer in Fair 02:
This one is my absolute makeup bag staple, it’s like a seven dollar concealer and I love it so much. It’s a lighter shade than the Tarte one so it does match my skin tone better with my foundation on.
Coty Air Spun in Translucent:
I love this one, it just smells good and this is the one I use the most frequently of the two that I have. It is also a huge size for under ten dollars 2.3 OZ at Walgreens for like eight dollars so you know you cannot go wrong with it.
Ciaté London Extraordinary Translucent:
Much smaller but I got in an IPSY box so I cannot complain. I feel like most setting powders are roughly the same so I can’t really say that there is much difference in my opinion but it’s honestly not something I would buy on my own.
Colourpop All Star Setting Spray:
I am almost out of this one because it is the one I use every day when I wear makeup. I love it a lot but I do have to have a towel up on me because it does spray out all over the place. Yea, it’s a spray so of course it’s going to do that, but I would buy it again.
Urban Decay All Nighter Settign Spray:
Other favorite, smells like cinnamon. I got a sample o this a while back and I bought a travel sized because I liked it so much and I am again running out of my other setting spray. I use the little size of this at my parent’s house so I guess I have two favorite setting sprays.
So I have a lot of random things in my makeup bag for prep and finishing for my face and I felt like I just needed to dump all of them into one place and here was the most logical place to do it.
Do you guys have any favorites when it comes to prep and finishing with your makeup? Any that you love that I should give a try?
I will see y’all with another blog at the end of the week!
Well so July is pretty much over which is still crazy to me because I feel like it was just February but let’s be honest with ourselves time isn’t real anymore and I just don’t think the concept of time is something that defines us right now.
So the Glam Bag Plus is changing next month with three customizations, three of the five products rather and that’s insanity to me, I know it’s to give more customization to the members. I like the idea of more customization but I don’t know what next month will bring because the customization doesn’t open until the beginning of August so I will have more information and insights next month on what I personally think of the new service.
The bag like the regular Glam Bag this month was plasticky which is fine and I know the bag will be changing next month, again I will let you know. The bag is cool though it’s purple and teal with wanderlust written on it, again, very 80’s to me and I still love it. I like this one more than the regular glam bag this month but purple is my favorite color so that makes sense.
Ciaté London Watermelon Burst Hydrating Primer:
I got a Ciaté watermelon product in my regular glam bag though, it was a lip oil and I wore it the whole time I was writing that blog post (which for me was yesterday but several days ago for you guys) and I actually really liked it. So this is a primer and I have so many primers now because of IPSY, like I like primers but let’s be honest you only need like two I have a good dozen and I have a lot of primers. I wish I used primers more but I don’t know how I feel about a watermelon primer but it says it’s really hydrating and that is something I for sure always need no matter what because I live in the south and it’s hot during the summer. It’s also silicone free and pore refining so I am going to give it a try.
Awake Glow Pill Super Serum:
Two of my favorite things to see on packaging is cruelty free and vegan which is always great but I am for sure getting more and more into serums, I am currently loving the Better Skin Co. Epik C Serum and it has done so many good things for my skin. I remember a time when I just had to like rinse my face and it was fine now I have like an eight step skin care routine, you can check that out if you want. Back to the serum though it has B vitamins in it and it helps hydrate so it sounds like all good things and the packaging both on the cardboard outer sleeve and the component itself so I can’t wait to try this out (for now it’s going to go in fridge so it stays fresher longer) I really do need a skin car fridge and at this point with the amount of skin care I have now I really need like a dorm fridge for all of it. I mean really.
Complex Culture Contour • Blush Brush:
I have one other Complex Culture brush and I kind of love it but this brush looks so cool! I can for sure say that I do not have any brushes that are shaped like this so it will for sure go into my main brush holder. I like how it feels and I actually redeemed my IPSY points to get another brush from this same company because I like their brushes. It is a brush and a good brush is a good brush.
Tarte SEA Surfer Curl Volumizing Mascara:
I love Tarte and that is no secret but I have never actually had a full size of their mascara, sample sizes sure but never a full sized so I am intrigued to use their mascara and this is a pretty new formula, I think. The packaging is nice and simple and it also has some of my favorite words, cruelty free and vegan. I am looking forward to getting to try it because again right now since no one is doing anything why am I going to use it and waste it so you know I will use it eventually.
Pūrlisse Beauty Matcha Green Tea Antioxidant Priming Moisturizer:
I really like Pūrlisse and I have been using it a lot recently and I am a huge fan of a lot of the products I have gotten to use from them and I know that I will more than likely like this one as well because it’s green tea and green tea is a great moisturizer and a lot of their products have white tea in them which is great for sensitive skin so I’m excited about it. Their blue lotus eye cream is my current favorite so I am excited to have the opportunity to try more products.
Overall it was a great bag, lots of skin care like mostly skin care but next month seems to present an interesting challenge and opportunity so I will report back on that next month.
July, I have no words really. I have been social media detoxing to be completely honest. I just decided to take some time away from the internet because social media has just gotten so toxic in our time of quarantine. Like we can be nice to each other but people just aren’t and it’s a lot for me to deal with. It just came to a point where I was feeling a lot of negative emotions that I don’t like feeling but I had to take a step back from the internet for a few weeks. Also my dad and I went back to Indiana to see some family friends, and a lot of people down here have been wearing masks but up there, not a lot of people were and we got a lot of funny looks but seriously, mask up for safety.
Beyond that welcome back to my blog, I will be doing this post and probably one other this month and I just, I want to get back to it but I just want to get back into doing things that make me happy as well still live in a world that is still really uncertain times so here is just something that is keeping my life sane at the moment.
So let’s talk about the bag, it’s plastic, I don’t mind it because it would be good to take to the pool or to the beach, (I go to neither so, I can’t shrug over the internet but shrug for me here) The zipper pull is an airplane and it says escape which feels really 80’s to me. (I am a child of the 90’s but it’s very neon!) It’s cute though so I like it.
Ciaté London Watermelon Burst Hydrating Lip Oil:
I got a Ciaté Watermelon product in my Glam Bag Plus as well (spoilers), I like watermelon products and I am usually not a user of lip oil and I will say this spells very lip smackers watermelon (again child of the 90’s). I like it and it’s not sticky like gloss so that is a plus for this. It’s like a weird consistency between a gloss and a lip balm and I like it, maybe I will use this to get more and more into lip oils. Who knows.
I got a cleanser last month too and I really like that one as well and when it says it’s dermatologically tested and usually those products don’t seem to dry my skin out or break me out. I will give it a chance here soon when my other little face cleanser runs out and maybe I will get come back here and tell y’all all about it.
Luxie 205 Pack and Shade Brush:
I really like how this brush feels and there is a notch in the handle for your thumb which is such a good idea! Such a good idea and I really like how the brush feels, it’s not as dense as some of my other packing brushes and I am totally cool with that. I’m just getting distracted watching YouTube videos and playing with the brush so that’s a good thing I guess.
Space Case Eyeshadow in Space Food:
Odd name for a shade but a really pretty neutral brown, I actually really like the shade and I like Space Case, I have gotten one of two products from them in my IPSY glam bags in the past so their eyeshadows are really nice, the pigment is great it is also a nice texture. It’s a nice brown shade and I don’t know what else I can say about it because it’s a great shade to just have many of.
TheBalm Cosmetics Will Powder Blush in Perseverance:
Okay so on the website they call it highlighter, well they did in the review and that confused me because it is labeled as blush but I usually don’t see blush that is shiny like a highlighter. There is a lot of glitter in it and the shade is just a little too dark and a little too orange for my skin tone so while I love TheBalm this is just a little off for me.
So there is my bag for this month and for the most part it was great, the Glam Bag is I feel more diverse with products and that’s great. The Glam Bag Plus is changing and I will talk about that in my other Glam Bag Plus unboxing that will be out later in the week (hopefully).
